A customer requested a Tempesta with a higher impedance and greater sensitivity for his amp. I designed a custom kit using the Satori 7.5" woofer and am thrilled with the results. Shipping to Florida today. :thumb:

This is neat, this type of custom design is why I keep browsing the Selah web page. Would this be Selah's best speaker to pair with a firstwatt f7 with only 20 watts at 8 ohms?

So, in essence, you listen to your customers' needs and change the design accordingly?
May I ask what is the sensitivity and impedance of this particular loudspeaker and is the cost substantially higher than the "standard" version?
I am asking because, well, my amplifier doesn't seem to like low impedance load and that's one of the reasons why I never took the plunge and bought this loudspeaker.

As the Satori woofer appears to be only ~ 60% of the cost of the Illuminator woofer, it might actually be less expensive, unless of course for some reason it requires more and/or costlier crossover components.

Yes, we offer the flexibility to customize a design. 88dB sensitivity, 7-ohm impedance and easy to drive. What amplifier do you have? The cost in a red cherry or gloss black finish is $3,000/pr. shipped to the CUSA.

I am planning on using a Bryston B60 integrated amplifier. It's 60 W/ch into 8 Ohm, 100 W/ch into 4 Ohm (20-20k), but it's a compact amplifier so I doubt it can deliver serious current. It's talents are refinement, not really brute force.

I live in Croatia, that's one part of the problem. The thing is, Selah Audio is really the only company that makes kits like these - all it takes is one look to realise you're dealing with serious hardware. I can only imagine that ceramic dome midrange sounds amazing.

The B60 will drive this speaker without any problem. The Satori woofer is less expensive and that lowers the overall cost for the design.

Okay, thank you! I will check with the import customs to see if there are possible obstacles regarding VAT, import duties or other things, and then let you know.
Do the crossovers come assembled or do they require some additional work like soldering?
Also, if possible, please say a few words about quality of components used in the crossover. If there is a thread on this topic already, you can just link it here.

The crossovers are assembled and pre-wired. Air core inductors, all polypropylene caps (Clarity PX on the mid and tweeter), and Mills resistors.

Still, do you believe this could be improved upon by using Mundorf Silver/Oil/Gold capacitors, as a custom order?
It sounds a bit insane I know because these caps really do cost a top premium.

The Mundorf case sizes tend to be too large and space is at a premium in this design. The Clarity ESA or CSA caps are a good option.

maybe this model would get more attention if it had a fancy name like Tempesta Firstwatt or Triode Edition. These are tentatively the perfect speakers for my desk where I do all my critical listening.. gotta think about selling off some stuff to fund this purchase :P

I tend to prefer the stiffer cones (aluminum, ceramic,etc) for better resolution in the lower midrange / upper bass. The Illuminator woofer also has greater excursion capability if you tend to like higher volume levels. I will have something available for local demos in a few weeks.
