The Sounds of Trance

I'm into to Trance music which I find very powerful sounding and artistic, the good stuff. Generally Trance for me is the evolution of Electronic music which began in the late seventies, 80's with artists like ELP,Kraftwerk, Vangelis, Yanni, Arkenston, Gary Numan, Klaus Schults, Tangerine Dream, Jarre, etc., to what we have today.

What makes a good Trance song? Well IMO its all about the sounds and how the artist uses them together in a creative manner.

Cool Sounds that I have a name for:

- The Washing Machine with agitator baseline: a lot of good trance will have the Washer agitator baseline, but not always. It keeps the song humming along and gives the song a powerful quality.

-Foghorn: being from the prairie I've never actually heard a fog horn except on TV. So when an artist uses it in a song it's really cool.

-Thunderous Bass
- the Sonic Boom
- the Electric Sonic Boom
- the Elastic band
-Electric Elastic band
- High Voltage Elastic band
- Steam valve
-Hollow wooden reed
-UFO mystery sound
-Electric snare drum
-Electric Echo
-High Voltage Deep bass
-Electric Tin Can

Okay, these sounds are only the tip of the iceberg.

What cool sounds do you like in Trance/Electronic music? 8)

That's an interesting link which will help in finding more good stuff.

I guess my tastes fall into the categories Hard Acid, Tribal, Epic, Deep and Anthem. 8)

I like this kind of electronic stuff, seems they call it remix.

I dislike that intense, nonsense eletronic percussion on most elec music.

I too enjoy this style.  Try Soma FM -- "Tags Trip".  Excellent Trance/Prog House...all day, all night!

I occasionally listen to "A State Of Trance" Sundays on Satellite Radio (if I am working).

My favorite track of all time is this remix of this ordinary song. It's funny because I generally don't listen to this artist.

Armin Van Buuren also has DJ headphones from Philips. I'm very curious about these.

This is my favorite EDM track of all time. I love many versions of it.

Here's my favorite by 4 Strings.  Very relaxing when I listen with my Byer T1's and Audeze LCD2's.  The video
is to die for!

Indeed great video effects, the music is pasteurized, similar to thousands of songs that evoke the bohemian nightlife.

Thanks for the cute samples guys, by that I mean listenable. But not what I have in mind when I say 'the good stuff'. :nono:

Below is a link to a sample track off the album Trip in Trance 2- 2003. Keep in mind the MP3 doesn't do the song justice, as in my home stereo. :P

My favorites these days are Armin Van Buuren, Gareth Emery and Dash Berlin (Actually a front for Solid Sessions).

One song that will always bring me back is Seven Cities by Solar Stone. Chicane also brings me back and has always been a favorite source of mine for mid-tempo trance.

By coincidence I just happened to come across a remix of BT's Always from a few years back done by Chicane and injected with some Seven Cities pads. Hope you guys like it.

By the way Above & Beyond has released an acoustic album including such songs as Satellite more. Check it out.

"My favorites these days are Armin Van Buuren"...

I so agree and one of Armin's best work is Imagine the Remixes..   His choice for female vocals has always been notable and this arrangement is no exception;  i.e.  "In And Out of Love" features the wonderful vocal of Sharon Del Adel.

For (digital) sonic reproduction this is tops on my CD list.

I will PM you about the abscene situation in my country.
You will find Vietnam a more pleasant place.

Hi FULLRANGEMAN.
The video is not blocked by the communist Vietnamese government,
but by the publisher or the originator,
maybe because of some embargo from the US toward Vietnam.

Another cool Trance song by Tiesto from the album Just be - Forever Today. Other note worthy songs from the album, Nyana, Walking On the Clouds, Adagio For Strings.

Hope you like it! 8)
