M2Tech EVO power supply
« on: 6 Aug 2010, 06:29 pm »
I have ordered an M2Tech EVO for my system as it looks like it will do everything I want from a digital interface. I am hoping it will be here in September. When it arrives my first task will be to fit the SR3-09 power supply. My second task will be to investigate the possibility of internal upgrades. I will keep those who are interested informed of my test results. Interested parties can use this thread for general discussion regarding the EVO, it’s use and it’s upgrade potential.

Regards
Paul

Hi Paul,

I have one, so just send me your PS and I will evaluate it  :D
By the way I am using it at the moment with your PS anyway.

Hi Ferenc,

It should be here soon. Which power supply are you using? If it is the SR3-12 you may have to drop the output voltage to comply with the EVO specs. The SR3-09 is the same power supply as the SR3-12, just set to 9 volts instead of 12 volts with capacitor voltage ratings altered to suit. Therefore you already know what to expect regarding performance.

Paul

Just signed up at AudioCircle having found the link on the Naim Forum.

Hello Paul. Until I spoke with Keith Cooper at Purite Audio this afternoon, I thought that you were based in the USA! Keith has corrected me on this one!

I took delivery of my Evo last week and it is a real improvement over the Hiface that I was previously using. I am currently using the Lithium-ion rechargeable battery that was supplied by Purite Audio with the Evo. I ordered a Maplin 9v linear supply for those days when I forgot to unplug the battery at night and came downstairs my find myself unable to use the Evo pending a battery charge. The comparison between the lithium battery and the Maplin supply is night and day. Much of the benefit of the Evo is lost when using it with the Maplin supply. I was surprised by the amount of difference in sound quality.

I had already found this on YouTube:

It's obvious that the chosen power supply for the Evo will make a big difference to the sound quality so I will track this thread with interest.

Have you received your Evo yet Paul. I hope you have as the first batch of 25 that Keith received from Marco have all gone!
