Song3's in walnut with brown-orange dye
« on: 16 Aug 2019, 05:42 pm »
Kevin wanted a pair of Song3's done in curly walnut.  He also wanted an orange-brown dye shot over the top.

We think they turned our really nice, almost as if they were carved from a block of claro walnut.

Here are some pictures...

And a close-up...

Happy listening Kevin!

Hi Kevin,

I have a pair of these speakers as I bought them secondhand here in Perth, Western Australia.  They guy I bough them from was using a brand new McIntosh integrated amplifier quite expensive I think.  The speakers sounded wonderful.

These are my third pair of Salk Sound speakers. I hope you enjoy them.

Cheers Rod

These are hands-down my favorite Salk  creations to date. These speakers are so elegant! They actually look like they might be made from actual board wood and not at all veneered.
I am floored! You made an outstanding choice in finish!
Bravo Jim!

Very nice.  Would also be nice to see them in an actual setting with normal light.

The speakers have ears in the veneer. I like it.  :)

Love your walnut speakers, some of the veneers are pretty but a bit over the top for my tastes. Nicely done!!   :thumb:

Let us know how there sounding in home.

I think your photos are even more beautiful!
Fantastic choice!
I wonder if my speakers can be re- veneered? 🙄

I wonder if my speakers can be re- veneered? 🙄

I get asked this question all the time.  Imagine how many hours it would take to sand all the existing veneer off a pair of cabinets in order to prepare them for new veneer.  There is much less labor in simply building new cabinets to veneer.  So it doesn't make sense from a $ point of view.  What's more, you would first have to sand the veneer off and then sand the cabinets surfaces flat since when you sand the veneer off, some areas will require more sanding than others, leading to an uneven surface.

So the simple answer is "no."

It was more of a half hearted attempt at a joke!
Seriously, all of your speakers are beautiful, but this is the first time that I've regretted my choice in finishes. 😢
