Hey All, just introducing myself here.
I've loved music/gear forever.  Really started getting into it more in college and beyond.
Started out in college with a Bose Wave Radio.
Then the best I could afford at Best Buy - panasonic "digital ready" receiver and Klipsch SF-3's.
Had those for ten years or so.
Then started getting the upgrade-itis - Emotiva gear and Wharfedale speakers, Rega turntable.
Kept churning through gear, and it's been about 10 years now of buying and trying.

For the purposes of this forum, planar speakers I've owned (in chronological order):

- Magnepan 2.7QR
- Apogee Centaur
- Quad ESL-57
- Beveridge Model 5

Now I have some Janszen ZA2.1A on the way (hope I got that model # right).
They are not the current ones with the 8" woofers, but I think they are only 2-3 years old.  They have 6.5 or 7" woofers.  They are active but no built-in DAC.  Side-firing tweeter.

I heard the newest ones at AXPONA 2022 and had to give them a try.  Wanted the newest ones but couldn't spring the $14k.
Also going to try running the Bacch software with them, just like I heard at the show! :)

I've had quite a lot of gear over the past decade andcan list it all if anyone is curious, but what still remains is:

-KEF 107 and Accuphase E-212 system
- Tannoy Arden and Leben CS300XS system
- KEF LS50 and PS Audio Sprout 2 system
- 4th system will now be Janszen 2.1A's and Bel Canto 3.5VB DAC and the Bacch software.

Nice to meet y'all.

Welcome Hawkeye,

You've owned some interesting speakers. The ones on your list I haven't heard but would love to are the Beveridge's.

Some years ago one of my online collaborators built a DIY version of the Beverage speaker with parabolic acoustic lens elements formed from thin sheets of steam-bent wood. I never got to hear them buy my friend raves about them.

BTW; I'm a long-time ESL builder and I happen to have a new pair of Jazzman MkIII symmetrically segmented wire-stator ESL's for sale at an amazing price but the buyer would have to pic them up in Savannah, GA (I won't ship them).

The MkIII's are the finest speakers I've ever built or heard.

@Jazzman53 I listened to the video of your speakers playing  WOW they sound good, even through my phone!  Nice work there!  Feel free to PM me with your asking price.  What speakers are you going to keep/run in your main system?

The Beveridge were pretty great, heck they all were.  Maybe I'm too easy to please and that's why I keep buying and trying - they all sound so good I just want to hear it all.
Other cone speakers I had were Lii Audio F15, RCA LC-1A, Sony SS-M7, Bozak B-305, and Legacy Focus.  Those are the really notable ones anyway.

Something about the Tannoy Arden and KEF 107 that I really like.  A bit warm.  Dynamic.  Really nice midrange.  Bass digs deep.  I hope these Janszen 2.1A's equal them, or even better.  They sure sounded great at AXPONA this year, although it was the newer top-of-the-line version.  My version has built-in Powersoft amps (190 wpc), 7" woofers, and one side-firing tweeter for ambience.

The newer version has 8" woofers, Hypex 500W amps, built-in DAC and DSP, and 3 ambience tweeters, with switchable omni sound vs. direct.

For the price difference I had to go with the old ones for now though, especially if I'm considering the Bacch software (found here).

Hawkeye,

I will PM you shortly with the price and warranty.  BTW; I'm not a business and I don't typically build speaker for sale and I won't be building any more in the future.

My friends at the annual CarverFest retreat had begged me for years to build speakers for them, and three years ago I relented and built four pairs of my MkIII design.  It was an exhausting project which consumed my evenings and weekends for almost a year. Three pairs went to my CarverFest pals and I kept one pair for myself.

I'm still using the fourth pair of MkIII's, which are my dream speakers for life, and I have no desire for anything else.  My three CarverFest pals feel the same way.

I had a bunch of materials left over from the 4-pair build, going to waste (the special wire was a 10,000 foot min-buy) so last year I built two additional pairs, to use up the remaining materials.

The MkIII's are much too labor intensive to be commercially viable, and I'm getting too old for so much work anyway (69 and still working full time) so I'm now officially retired from building speakers.  I do still maintain my DIY ESL website though, for the benefit of other DIY'ers.

Here's some planar porn for you:

Hawkeye,
When I attempted to PM you, I got an error message stating that you cannot receive PM's.  Apparently; your profile isn' setup to receive them.

Just email me Jazzman1953@gmail.com and I will reply with pricing & warranty info.
