In their heyday, Rory Gallagher's band could roll on with the best of them.  I was surprised at just how many top musicians named Rory as a major influence in their progression.

The newest album from the Tedeschi Trucks Band is stellar.  They always make music, and the recording quality is outstanding in my opinion.

Vote for Widespread Panic... just caught them for something like the 30th or 40th time in Detroit this past Tuesday, so yes, I'm an unmitigated fanboy. It had been WAY too long since I last saw them. Want to try them out? You can stream their show from Milwaukee tonight starting in about 15 minutes here:

Another vote for Widespread Panic (Mikey is my avatar after all  :D )

The quality of the archive releases (remastered live shows, not just the raw sbd) at livewidespreadpanic.com is tremendous; especially the one hirez offering they have: http://www.livewidespreadpanic.com/live-music/0,5581/Widespread-Panic-mp3-flac-download-11-20-2001-Freedom-Hall-Johnson-City-TN.html

A b BIG plus 1 on Little Feat... Especially the early recordings with Lowell George.  They defined "groove" back in their day.  Richie Hayward was in love with the concept of time.

It's sad so many overlook the fabulous Mike Keneally Band.  Now here's a guy who started his career by calling up Frank Zappa telling him he knew all of Franks music and offered his services.  Sensing this was probably some kind of joke, Zappa nonetheless invited Keneally down to prove his word.  After he ripped through a few tunes on guitar as Zappa named them off, Frank was sold.  He had Keneally come back the next day to do it again for the rest of the band and promptly got hired on the spot.  Not bad at all!  Today Keneally has some 15 solo albums and is widely considered the Zappa heir apparent.  You be the judge.
