Taller Sub woofers
« on: 2 Feb 2021, 09:15 pm »
I have two Taller boy subs (1-12", 1-15" and one 15" passive ) that I run in conjunction with my RM40s and they really fill in the lows great. The previous owner had a cat that put a couple small holes in two of the 12" and one of the 15" surrounds so I need to refoam them which I have done before on other speakers so I feel up to that task. I know this will only improve them. My first question is should I refoam the passives or replace the passives completely? Any recommendations on new if they should be replaced?

For the RM-30's Series II upgrade we were using the Creative Sound Solution (CSS) 10" passive speaker.  Same goes for the the RM-40's passive with CSS passive. They are nice as they are tunable with provided washers. Unfortunately Creative Sound Solution does not make a 15" passive just 10" and 12".  https://www.css-audio.com/online-store/CSS-APR12-12-Passive-Radiator-p110031732 Personally, I would not have any problem with dropping in a Dayton 15" passive radiator which also uses the washer dampening system.  https://www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Audio-RSS390-PR-15-Aluminum-Cone-Passive-Radiator-295-504.

If you choose to keep the existing passive radiator, after you refoam them you can vitrify them with glue. Click the link and scroll down to the article. Good luck

I read that article and am considering that, in part because they already sound good, not sure I want to start with getting the weight correct on new passives. Thanks for the help
