Ok.....

1) The bass is much quicker, and controlled on the 968's vs. the 938's.  With certain room placements I had too much bass with the 938's but with the tighter, more controlled bass of the 968's they are much less sensitive to room placement.  They do their thing whereever you sit them.

2) With the new tweeter adjustment available on the back of the speaker and the top speaker tilting capability, you can easily tune to your liking.

3) Just as when I first heard the 733's, I thought they were much more open and spacious sounding than the 938s, except the 938's still had the edge on bass.  Saying that,  the 733's are no slouch in the bass department.  Well, the 968's have that "more open and spacious quality of the 733's but with $25K bass quality.....and I kid you not about the bass quality.

4) The finish is first class, equaling  any other $20K to $30K speaker.  The 938's finish isn't bad and at the price point it's acceptable, but the 968's finish makes you scratch your head and say "how do they do that for $6500"???

5) The 968's are more focused, without getting edgy or etched sounding, than the 938's.

6) When I play the 968's with tubes I say "They should be driven with tubes".  Then I hook up the Hyperion 100W SS monos or the Goldmund integrated and I say, "They should be used with SS"....they really do what they do, whether driven by SS or tubes.

That's my current thoughts after living with the 968's for two weeks....hope it helps and feel free to come in and listen and judge for yourself...as you know that's the best way.

I think that it´s very quiet about this speakers. Weres the reviews and new?!
Can you please tell me a little bit more about 968?
Is the tweeter better? Details in sound comparing with 938

Best regards

Both tweetersare in the same structure.  938 is short horn type for crossover
design, and 968 is not because the tweeter is the 1st order placement.
The sound source is 15mm difference in distance, so there is a phase
difference, too.  Because of the new tweeter design, the treble sounds
more natural and less edgy.

Anyone knows if there´s an upcoming review on the 968?
Because the used market doesn´t pay that much for Hyperion 938 it will have to be a 5000$ upgrade. Do you think than an owner of 938 should go on 968 or do you think they should settle with 938?

guys,

I auditioned the 968 couple of days ago and as I will be getting 938 in few days... I am sure I can put some comparison on...One thing for sure, that 968 is just an amazing speaker and I am afraid I may be thinking about them even after I get 938s.
Talk about one open, transparent sound...added to that, deep, tight bass...simply amazing...I listened to them side by side with verity Audio Farsifal (??) and Rockport Merik/sheritan..and 968 kicked  Verity's butt...to Rockport...other than bass, almost there...

This shop I am sure will have 938 in for audition, so I will go back and listen to them under the same condition and let you guys know..but my feeling is us 938 owners will have to find ways to comfort ourselves and stay in love with 938 and not be tempted...because more we compare and find out, more we will be sucked into that 968 beauty...;-)

Hi Roy,

Can you give more details on the sound of the 968 versus 938?  aa

Dracule1, as you know, I'm very familiar with the 938 after living with them for more than a year.

The most major difference between the 2 is that the 968 is more natural. There's a completeness to the music that the 938 sometimes lack. Maybe, this is due to the 1st order crossover design. However, many 1st order xover speakers I have heard in the past sounded overly warm and slow - Vandy comes to mind... The 968 is as fast as the 938 in terms of transients and bass speed.

The highs are silky smooth yet very detailed on the 968. 938 with its horn loaded tweeter can sound etched on some music. The mids have more body and bass digs much deeper.

However, what attracted me most is what I first mentioned - wholeness across the entire frequency spectrum.
