Hi FOlks,

I have been experimenting/tube rolling with my musical paradise mp-701 which requires 4 12au7 or (switching the circuit to 6v) 6922/6dj8. After removing the stock tubes, I tried a quad of genalex gold lion 6922s (matched from a good source) and toggled the circuit switch. The noise was god awful and it sounded like there was construction in the background lol!

Many prefer 6922s to 12au7s, but my experience has not been rewarding. Once I purchased a quad of 12au7a RCA cleartops, I was delighted.

Anyone have experience with 6922s vs 12au7s? ANy general preferences or experiences like mine?

6922s are generally not considered as subs for 12AU7.   

there are a LOT of 12AU7 equivalents.  here are some:

the musical paradise can use either family of tubes, simple flip of a switch.
