Well, you'll have to find it used, now, as Norh has quit selling it, but the SE 9
tube amp has turned out to be one of my better purchases. I rolled tubes and power cord but that's been it for the 3 years I've owned it. Single ended pentode EL34 and 12ax7 with a 5ar4 rectifier. Gets quite warm but nothing close to a Stereo 70. 9 screaming watts per.
With the right efficient speakers, you can have some seriously good sound for cheap.
