Ken Fritz's home build "The world's best stereo system?"

If it's not the best, it must be a contender. This is impressive—and also sobering lesson in perspective. A lot of years and effort to realize and not so many to enjoy.

As to why I posted this here, well I found it difficult to know where to post it. Maybe we need a circle for descriptions of attempts at ultimate systems.

The video gives pause to reflect on my past 18 years of trying to develop my ideal audio system.  I have/had no ambition to come up with the very best, just a good "practical" one that audiophiles can appreciate without causing marital meltdown.  This guy seems obsessive in many ways.

and not so many to enjoy.

That's the thing.
Also the fact he likely cannot hear anything above 8-10kHz at this age.
But..whatever makes a man happy cannot be so bad  :thumb:

Wow! Thanks for posting that. I was amazed that he did so much of that himself. Incredible!

That made my day  :D

Cheers!

I couldn't help but notice (at 5:21) that the pendulums of the two grandfather clocks on the wall behind the front speakers were almost perfectly synchronized, the left being just slightly ahead of the right. At the end of the video (51:19) which must have been at least 2 hours later, allowing for editing cuts and re-takes, they still had the same relationship.

I almost cried watching this series. To watch the love that went into this system (by him and his whole family) and then for him to confess his physical decline...it was moving. At least he has enough function left that he can live out the rest of his days just enjoying it all.

With the shear amount of drivers and watts, the HT Circle sounds like the perfect place.
I'm saving this for when I've got a spare hour to devote. Everyones comments and the first couple minutes I skimmed through look like it'll be enjoyable.
Thank you.

Yes, I'm aware of this (to me) amazing phenomenon. Thanks. I assumed it did not apply here because [1] the floor is cement, I think, and [2] they were not in sync, quite, but stayed out of sync in the same way over a long period of time. If they had been on the same platform which was able to move laterally, they would have been in perfect sync, like these metronomes.

If you are impatient, watch from 1:40 to 2:10—that's when the magic really happens!

I always appreciate high performance and his efforts.

Having said that, sitting that far from the speakers, over 20' and having that massive center channel in the way, he would lose what I hold dear in a sonic presentation, 3D musicians and instruments. The farther you sit from the speakers the flatter the effect.

Would love to hear it though, have to say.

Luckily it's pretty easy to move the seat forward.  One cool think about line array speakers is that you can sit surprisingly close to them and they still sound coherent.

I'm hoping he has years of enjoyment before his ALS kicks in heavy.

My takeaway was all the Krells running on 220 so they loaf along, his words.

None of us can even come close to saying we built a system. He built a system. Humbling and inspiring.

One other thing I noticed is he talks about the Bricasti dac but it is not in the credits at the end.

Hope he finds contentment, a major problem among audiophiles, but especially someone who has dedicated decades in his system.
