Belkin UPS F6H500-USB-HD (worth repairing?)
« on: 19 Nov 2010, 10:19 pm »
Hey all,
Not sure if UPS units fit here, but feel free to move it if necessary.

I've got a few of these units and they seem to have died. Well, the "uninterpretable" part that is. The reserve power time is zero. When the power goes out, these turn into nothing more than power strips.

Are they worth buying new batteries for?
Is there anything inside worth salvaging?
Should I toss them?

Thanks,
Bob

Or.......I could gut the boxes and fill them with DIY Felix units.  :thumb:

If it's just the battery (and likely is), and you buy the replacement at a good price, they're probably worth repairing.  But not from the local Batteries Plus store or equivalent.  For an SLA battery that they quoted me $75 for, I was able to find replacements at online outlets and eBay for ~$25 shipped.  Your cost will, of course, depend on the size.

Good idea Steve, thank you.
They only cost $60 new and wouldn't mind putting a few bucks in them to get them working again, but obviously don't want to spend too much.
Plus, I hate to throw them away. Seems like such a waste.

But the idea of using their carcass for banks of Felixes is fairly appealing.
