Title: New To Odyssey Audio - Audio Circle
Post by: thankfulforyou on 17 Feb 2019, 11:51 pm
I recently purchased a Kismet Reference Stereo amplifier and Candella Preamp.  I installed 1957 RCA black-plate 12AU7 tubes.
Both great pieces of gear!  Klaus says synergy is important and based on what I have been hearing it is true. The rest of my gear includes:

Innuos Zenith MKII music server
Lampizator Amber II DAC (super-clocks and SR blue fuse)
High Fidelity Cable CT-2 Interconnects
High Fidelity Cable Hemisphere
Groneberg interconnects
Audio Art power cords
Carnegie Acoustic CST speakers (upgraded by Danny Richie)
Electra Cable speaker cables (recommended by Danny Richie)

The Kismet and Candella sound incredible! The very best I have owned.

However, since owning it I am getting a static-pops type sound through my speakers. This is not a ground hum.  My outlet is on a separate circuit. Never had this issue before.  Has anyone experienced this?  If so, what was the remedy?

Thanks very much.

Welcome!

I did a search in the Odyssey circle using the search word ‘pop’ and 3 pages of posts came up.  I’m not sure if you need a certain amount of posts before being able to search, but if not hopefully you’ll find your answer there.

Good luck, Brett

Anything in your audio chain using tubes?

Jeez...read the darn OP's first...

Both channels or just one?

Are the pops just while the tubes are warming up or does the popping continue periodically? If it continues after warm up try re-seating the tubes and that doesn't cure the problem try the tubes that were supplied with the preamp and see if the noise goes away.

Update.  I had a NetGear wifi extender plugged into the same outlet as my HFC Hemisphere/all gear connected to Hemisphere. This is on a separate circuit.  I removed wifi extender from the outlet and moved it to another outlet.  The popping-static sounds stopped; I will continue to monitor but I think this may have solved that issue.  I am getting a slight ground hum now but very low.

My Lampizator DAC and Candella are both tubed.  I was getting the popping-static sound with the original J&J tubes.

I am also new to AC. I would like your opinions on the preamps Candela versus ETHESIAN. Thanks
