Drats! Just read today that Pat Di Nizio, lead singer of the Smithereens, has died. They were one of my favorite bands when I was younger and I really dug Di Nizio's vocals. Seems all of the icons of my youth are passing away. :(
-
RIP Pat. Great band.
-
Oh man, way too young... :icon_frown:

Loved the Smithereens. Had their 1st 3 albums. Great live band too. Dang, he was my age. That is way too young!
-
Huge fan of Pat and The Smithereens.
Incredible songwriter and all around good guy.
RIP Pat and thank you for the music. Condolences to family, friends and fans.
This one HURTS.
A lot

Just listened to an 80's interview with him by Terry Gross on NPR. Interesting guy.
-
A band that never seemed to get the cred they deserved...

Wow! That's a real shame.
I've got several of their CD's. Really enjoyed their first two releases.
Agree he passed on at too young an age.
-
He's now...only a memory.
Too Soon?

Too soon. Great song though. When first hearing about his death, I thought "then I dream of her behind the wall of sleep."
Dusted off & listened to "Especially for You" just now (well technically, it was 16 bit .wav files upsampled to DSD256, but haven't heard it for awhile. Sounded fantastic!). It still holds up IMO & Pat's vocals are as haunting as ever. Great album from top-to-bottom & superbly produced by Don Dixon.
