5.1 to 2ch downmixing- external processor?
« on: 28 May 2009, 10:14 pm »
Currently I'm feeding all my Blu-ray audio from a PS3 to my 2ch DAC via optical, letting the PS3 do all the work for the output. Is there any worth in getting an external audio processor, feeding it high-res multichannel, having it process that into 2 channel, and then using a digital out to go to the DAC? If so, any recommendations on the processor?

Thanks :)

No.  Nothing to gain really.  Then how would you feed it, HDMI?  Then the processor will downmix to 2 channel anyway.  Also, the digital out will eventually be your bottleneck at lossy DD 2.0 maximum, with downmixed audio.

Yeah, HDMI into the proc. Was hoping there'd be a resolution gain or something, kept nagging me. Thanks.
