This in from pumpkinBill (thanks!!!)

Roy Wood is a promo, I have a regular copy but I can't have too many Roy Wood albums. Just not possible. And Gerry Rafferty: I'm looking forward to listening to it. I'm unfamiliar and I'd never buy it otherwise so I'm looking to expand my horizons! I'm still not sure how Bill knew I didn't have it. Bill: can you see me now?Paul

Not from where I'm sitting Paul

It's a good bullet to bite! You won't be disappointed.

Paul
I sure hope you're right Paul. I've read numerous reviews of this set and everyone seems to think it's well worth the cost. We shall see !!!!!!!

NO WAY!

I'm definitely living in the wrong place.
No wonder you've got so much vinyl to pick and choose from with local stores like that.
Another great catch Bill  8)

You really have to go thru all of them as so many are just junk. But with about 25 rows you can usually find at least 15
If not not they are only $1 apiece

I'm just worried that pumpkin will get a pneumoconiosis from breathing all of those musty vinyl particulates! If he's going through 25 bins a day, maybe he should wear a respirator!!! 8)

I have Zero patience for going through $1 bins. At 4000 Holes Bob screens all the used albums he buys so I am pretty confident that the records in the regular bins have a good chance of being VG+ or better. He has told me that what he puts in the $1 bins are records he won't pay for or the worst copies of records of which he has several copies. Maybe I'm wrong, but I assume other record store owners follow a similar philosphy.

I think it depends on the vendor.
Many just pop their junk in the cheap bins, others have lots of good quality but widely available (therefore cheap) items that they have acquired for minimal outlay and just want to move them on.

A quick initial flick generally let's you know what you're dealing with.

You're right Davey things like Abba and Carly Simon are very common items and be found resonable just about anywhere. I won't find any thing decent by the Beatles or the Stones. I look for the LP's that have 3 or more price stickers which means they've been in the store for awhile. Tom keeps reducing the price on an LP every 6 months or so. That way he keeps the stock movingout of the shop. After an hour there and $10 worth of vinyl, then it's off to Floods for a buffalo cheese steak and that makes for an enjoyable Sunday afternoon. You never know what's there in the dollar bins unless you look. If I had to travel an hour to do this it clearly won't be worth the time and effort but since I can walk there in about 10 min. I say why not. .............Bill

BTW The sealed album had a starting price of $8 to 5 to 3 and finally $1

You're right Bill, and the only way I will ever know is reading your posts, which I enjoy BTW. I tried it once and after about 45 minutes I realized this wasn't for me. I reserve a year's worth of pateince to look for that gem among junk at the annual fundraising sale for the local public radio station.

Looking forward to August and the Rock n Roll HOF.

I've met Bill a number of times at Double Decker in Allentown, all classical is $1, period. So I've been collecting that, by now I'm in for over $500.

I usually go through the jazz, but he doesn't have much, and it's always betwen $6 and $30.

But the new arrivals bin has given me a few keepers in rock and jazz for $1, so it's worth it.

I tried to go through the .50 cent area once but it was too disheartening to see so many fine albums in such poor shape in the hope of scoring 1, so I now pass on the .50 cent area.

But I will peruse the $1 racks, especially if Bill is there, 'cuz I always call him over for a consult on items I'm not sure of. He's talked me down off the ledge more than once.

OK Bill - This one's gonna trump that lot

At last I have an original release copy of the Quo's Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon

One of two "little gem" eBay finds this week.
After a Steam Clean it's pretty much perfect - all for the princely sum of 99 of our British Pennies (OK plus a couple of quid P&P)

Am very pleased to have this long sought LP in the collection.

All I need now is the 2nd Album "Spare Parts" - These are like Rocking Horse Doo-Dah!  :P

You sir, are simply amazing. :notworthy:  I've never heard of 75% of these records/artists. A couple sound like jazz or classical which means they would never find their way to my turntable.
