I just laid done $30 for one of these from Amazon.

Analog Productions 200 gram reissue of the famous, and much lauded,  (RCA Living Stereo, 'shaded dog') Fritz Reiner conducting the Chicago Symphony's performance of 'Scheherazade'.  Originals sell for upwards of $300.

I listened to it for the first time last night. All I can say is, bloody hell!

The quality of this recording is absolutely amazing. Detail, dynamics, transparency, imaging...all there. It is hard to point to any one thing that is so great about this recording, it does everything so well. Calling this a great recording is an understatement.

Not to mention the absolute silence of the vinyl.

Oh, and the performance is considered one of the best ever recorded.

I bought the three releases in this series. Supposed to be 25 I believe planned. The three are all good. Figure some classical must be good for me!

Sound is superb.

Just picked up a perfect (true NM+) copy of Charlie Barnet's "Cherokee" on an early Everest (Blaylock label). I've been looking for a good copy for years!
Fantastic lp.

Beck - Morning Phase

Wow. Fans of Sea Changes take notice. Even has same backing band. And on the vinyl geek front, it was pressed at Pallas. Great sound on first listen.

Excellent.

And the new Notwist. "Close to the Glass"

Been loving streaming on NPR First Listen the past week. Great stuff and can't wait to spin this one.

If y'all aren't familiar with Notwist, I also recommend checking out their album Neon Golden. Different from this one, but a masterpiece merging mellow/ambient electonica with acoustic instruments and vocals.

The Who - Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy on Track.
Bought over the net.  Found to have a 'PORKY' in the fineprint when it arrived.

Yeah, I felt lucky to grab one on Monday night, before it was officially out. Worth the wait IMHO Laura.

So on my way home I hit a couple of my favorite thrifts and find nothing. That ice cold beer on this beautiful 77 degree Arizona afternoon is calling me home.  :)

I'm cruising down the freeway thinking maybe I should hit a couple more by my house. Probably a waste of time Robert!! But my thrift addiction gets the best of me and I head for the exit ramp.  :duh:

Luckily for me it wasn't a waste. Not the biggest score, but I found some excellent condition records! All for $10.  :)

Bill Evans, Quintessence; Milestone Records

Ralph Towner, Diary: ECM

Lyle Mays, s/t; ECM

Keith Jarrett, The Celestial Hawk; ECM

Keith Jarrett, The Survivors' Suite; ECM

Keith Jarrett, Invocations, The Moth and The Flame; ECM

Duke Ellington (not shown) Indigos, Columbia Six Eye Mono

The next albums I bought at a Bookman's store next to a GW. Some are upgrades from older versions. $27 for all.

Gerry Mulligan, Age of Steam; A&M

Al DiMeola, Scenario; Columbia

Jan Hammer & Jerry Goodman, Like Children

Jan Hammer, The First Seven Days, Nemperor

Now that's a haul Bob. Lots of really nice tunes there my friend. Must be the proximity to us boomers who like hot weather (which I'm not, warm is fine). I am envious, not much in the way of thrift shops around here. Maybe I'll send you some bucks and you can pick up some extras next time you make your rounds.  :thumb:

Nice score on those ECM's!

All of Ralph Towner's albums are worth having, and the 'Celestial Hawk' is very close to being brilliant.

And of course, being analog ECM recordings, the sound quality and pressings are universally great.

^ ^ Thanks guys. All the ECM albums that I have found at thrifts are usually clean and in very good condition. Definitely a reflection on type of individual that would purchase them. Plus, as you know ECM albums came in a poly audiophile sleeves instead of paper, hence no scuff marks. I never heard the Celestial Hawk before, looks interesting! I like pretty much of all Jarrett's output and just about everything on ECM.

Cheers! Bob

I need to somehow categorize my collection so I can check to see if I already own it. My memory isn't good enough. I already own Levon Helm and MoFi Katy Lied. Levon Helm is new and sealed. Katy Lied is mint. They are for sale if anyone is interested.
