check out the early German pressing as well.  A real sleeper.  When we wrote up the DSOM article, I had first stamper UK, 2nd stamper German, Japanese Pro Arte and the MoFi UHQR to compare.  One of my colleagues prefers the german pressing, but I liked the UHQR best on my system.

They are all pretty good and the standard MoFi can be had for $20.  A real bargain.

I got a decent copy of the new one, I think HP was being a little dramatic about how bad the new one is, but it's not fantastic.  (Still better than the one reissued a while ago)  That MoFi is tough to pass up for the price.

For those of us who are new to the vinyl buying scene, where would be the best place to pick up a MoFi copy of DSOTM?  Discogs?  Ebay?  Amazon?  All of the above?

Laura,
My DSOTM new copy is very quiet.

Jeff:
I have the MoFi 1979, help me here, what is the UHQR? Ultra High Quality Recording? Is this the "newer" reawakened MoFi of the 2000's?

Harry Pearson really slammed its sound quality in the latest issue of The Absolute Sound. Does your copy have a lot of surface noise? A lot of reviews on Amazon complain about surface noise. I have an orginal EMI pressing, the MoFi and the 30th Anniversary. I think the MoFi sounds the best. I bought the new remastered vinyl of Wish You Were Here and it sounds terrific.

Laura

Pearson also slammed the Cat Stevens and everyone else has praised it. I have a few Lee Hulko US pressings and a MoFi 1970's. I can wait for an Island pressing from England...maybe...Mikey liked the new one...

Paul you have UHQR right but I believe they've been around since the 80's but some else may correct me on that point.
I'll check with T.M. from another sight as he has quite a few of them

I found mine in Cleveland this summer for about $30. For used Internet purchases, I prefer Discogs. The quality seems higher--a lot more M and NM psotings than on eBay or Amazon.

Jim Steinman - Bad for good

Lee

I really like this album. Jim wrote the songs Meatloaf sang. Bat Out of Hell is one of my favorite albums. Most of the songs on this album were written for the 2d Meatloaf album, but he had lost his voice so Steinman released them. Many of these songs finally appeared on later Meatloaf albums. On this one, Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through is a great song with great lyrics.

Merry Christmas,

Laura

Have a careful look in the Steinman album Lee,
There should be a 7" EP single in there too (Storm / Rock and Roll Dreams)

Nice catches
Cheers

Go Lee Go!
I don't do jazz at all but am amazed at how much is re-released on audiophile labels. And if I'm not mistaken, many titles go for beaucoup bucks, original OR redone.

180 g issued by Vinyl Lovers and pressed in Europe.

The sticker in the upper left hand corner says

Collection of 15 live tracks recorded at performances in Dallas, San Francisco & Houston, in 1966-67 when the Elevators were in their heyday and LSD was king!
