YOU DA MAN! I have all of these also and they are fantastic! But I think you have to turn the volume up more than usual, do you agree?

Paul

Yes, I agree!  Weird.

They do sound amazing though!  All of them...but especially Get Happy!  I always considered GH slightly inferior to the first three Elvis LPs, but it was absolutely a mastering issue I'm realizing.  This release opens the album up so much, it just sounds incredible.

Always nice, when you can fall in love with a record all over again.

Wow, Keith Jarrett and Jack DeJohnette. Ruta And Dattya

Jarrett is on piano, flute, organ and e-piano here. Great stuff on first listen.

I am such a sucker for ECM, especially from the 70s.

Jazz record label from Munich.

Reliably good recordings and pressings in my experience.

Artists who have recorded on ECM include Dave Holland, Jack DeJohnette, Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, John Abercrombie, Gary Peacock.

Thanks. I thought it might be an abbreviation for a type of music I missed out on in the 70's.

No wonder I didn't recognize the label, I have never owned a jazz record in my life.

Never too late Laura.

For those of you rock fans who feel allergic to jazz, check out Miles Davis' Tribute to Jack Johnson. It rocks hard.

Pat Metheny is on ECM. Try the LP "Offramp" or "As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls.

This is where Rock meets Jazz or Jazz Fusion and the recordings are "Audiophile" in their quality.

ECM is usually a very good label.

I know, but I don't think it is ever going to happen. Jim Goulding has tried to interest me with Coltrane and Miles Davis but I just couldn't get there--not my cup of tea music-wise. I have friends in the Bay area--he loves jazz and she likes rock n roll like me. Whenver he puts a jazz record on, we both lose interest in listening and head to the kitchen.

Well I guess Jim saved me the endeavor eh.  :)  I'll presume it was early Coltrane & Davis, the classical stuff as opposed to the later free form. I'm not a free form fan either.  8)

OK, back to the Hot Rats I recently bought...

I've been busy so I've been lurking more than posting (and listening). The Classic Records release is beautiful, the cover is faithful to the original with a heavy gatefold. There's even an extra paper inner sleeve, one side with the bell jar Bizarre label images, the other with a loving written story from Bernie Grundman about how he was faithful to Zappa and used a special tubed cutting lathe, etc. Vinyl is thick, flat and quiet.

The sound? About as good to these ears as my original Bizarre release. Songs like Little Umbrellas have the acoustic bass sounding similar to me. My college copy is wearing through the bottom, I played it so much, so I'm happy to have the new cover. It's one of the best album covers of all time, in my opinion.

So, if you don't have it and can't find it used it is a perfectly acceptable release. But unlike other re-releases, like the first four Elvis Costello albums, this one is not revelatory!

What is ECM?

ECM means Edition of Contemporary Music and was founded by Manfred Eicher in 1969.
It's a great label with over a thousand albums behind them.
