Drove son and friends to a concert in Baltimore last night, as I had to wait 5 hours, I swung down to Joe's Record Express in Silver Spring to do some jazz shopping, wound up with;

Stan Kenton - Standards In Silhouette - Capitol #1394 (1959)
Stan Kenton - West Side Story The Comprehensive Kenton- Capitol #1609 (1961)
The Comprehensive Kenton - Capitol STB-12016
Stan Kenton - Capitol Jazz Classics Vol.2 - Capitol M11027
Lester Young - Pres and Teddy (1956) Verve Records
Lester Young - The Complete Savoy Recordings (1944–50)
Lester Young - The Lester Young Story vol 1, Columbia rerelease of a 5 volume, each 2 lps, UK release
Lester Young - Pres Lives, The savoy Sessions
Gil Evans - Out of the Cool , a minty Impulse promo release on something they call 'KC 569 blend premium virgin vinyl'
Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Further Out, good, clean Columbia lp
Metheny, Coleman - Song X
Sonny Rollins, Vol. 2, a good and clean Blue Note release
DEXTER GORDON THE LONG TALL DEXTER - but only the 2nd disk of a 2lp volume.

Wilco - The Whole Love   dBpm Records – ANTI- 87156-1

Picked this up today from my local record store.  I don't believe that this album will disappoint Wilco fans at all!  :thumb:  Two 180 gram lps and the album comes with a cd.

This arrived today. One of the best LPs I've heard in 10 years. Highly recommended!

No wonder it's sold out all over. (I guess I chopped the photo) It's Yes's new LP "Fly From Here".

Stage Fright is my favorite Band album even though it's not supposed to be, according to the critics. Must be that Rundgren production.

And Big Star, what can I say, a classic! Did you get the original or a reissue?

Not original Big Star pressing, a pressing from the 1986. Not sure how it stacks up.

Speaking of which, is there a site that y'all know that gives information on the quality of different pressings. See it in threads, but would be great to have a single resource...

stevehoffman.tv has a lot of advice about specific pressings. I had three copies of Blind Faith, American releases, all with different matrices in the dead wax. I queried the group and people there seem to know everything, where it was pressed, mastering engineers, etc.

Usually threads about vinyl with "which one is best" wind up with a few posts about which CD version is best. That's why I frequently post here about "vinyl vs. CD" and "why bother with vinyl" about how important it is to get the best vinyl copy. The CD's can be overly bright, improperly mastered, may not use the right source tape, etc. etc. etc.

But if you get the "right" vinyl copy (usually from DaveyW's homeland) you know you're listening as close as it was meant to be.

My favorite google search is the "site:" feature...use the word "site" with a ":" and then the name of the website and your search term. First, go to google. Then in the search box type in the following:

site:stevehoffman.tv best todd rundgren vinyl runt

And voila! A bunch of great threads discussing all things vinyl.

Even more germane to your question:

site:stevehoffman.tv best big star vinyl

New guy, Benoit David. I actually think he fits in rather well, and I'm a big Anderson fan.

Opeth - Heritage

The 2 record vinyl edition, of course.

This is a straight prog album. Very little signs of metal, and NO growling vocals.

It really is a beautiful album. Dark, emotional, great melodies.....
