It's been a while since I posted here and the system has been through many phases, recently reaching extreme complication. I've decided to simplify, for a while at least. I even decided to build it around my old Marantz PM-11S1. It seems that the 100wpc integrated wasn't just up to the challenge when the 3.7s were in a small bedroom (most impressive bass I've ever heard out of a pair of Maggies), but it's perfectly happy driving them in a ~600sq' room. The tape on the floor is for my other pair of mains - still haven't decided which pair I prefer, so I switch back and forth every few months and it's like having a brand new system.

A side benefit to paring down the component count and staying in the 2-channel realm is that the wiring is cleaner.

Correct. They're the SL3, built in January of 1998.

I wondered as well. They seem too large for SL3s. I thought they were Quests until I saw the sloping cabinet top. They're parallel to the floor on my quests. The walnut rails look particularly nice in your milieu.

Nice. I owned IIIs before. Don't be afraid to put them almost against the outside walls and pull them right out into the room, even up to your stands. You are missing all the soundstage magic.

Well sir, an audio bud that lives in PDX often puts his gear up for sale on USAM. I stumbled across his ad for a pair of 1+1's and ended up with these because they are his best pair and because he wanted to be able to hear them occasionally. Some custom work on the interfaces that I forget about. They sound fantastic with Class A amplification and throw a big, deep soundstage. Still working on placement.

So now I own two full range dipole open baffle speakers, one planar magnetic and the other electrostatic. I also have one pair of speakers that are monopole planar magnetic, VMPS RM-30 M, and a few pairs of cones and domes. Unless something super special comes along I think I'm set for now.

Currently in the process of acquiring a pair of Threshold SA/1 Class A monoblock amps. Minty to begin with (very low hours) and planning on sending to Threshold for resto/upgrades. Until the next great piece comes along.
