Title: Interested in Bryston 1.7 Pre-Pro

I am considering upgrading my pre-pro from the Rotel RSP-1098 to the Bryston 1.7 --- I've got questions.  I have already looked at the owner's manual.  Here goes:

1.  Does it have a headphone jack?
2.  Does it allow you to have an additional amp for multi-zone listening.  If so, where do you plug it into?
3.  I see four (4) coaxial digital ins and two (2) optical (toslink) digital ins but I do not see any digital outs (toslink or coaxial).  Does it have any digital outs?  If not, what do you do for cd recording/minidisc recording?
4.  Can you do software upgrades to it?  If so, how?

I think that is it for now.  Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.

I have auditioned your Rotel RSP-1098 before buying the Bryston SP1.7 and the sound quality of the 1098 is good.  The SP1.7 sounded much better.   You will hear "inner details" in movies.   In 2ch mode, it is transparent!

To answer Qs 1.2.3. there are non but there are reasoning behind that.

4. Software upgrades are done by replacing a PROM. Whether you do it yourself, or send the unit into Bryston for the replacement, depends on your level of comfort with cracking the case and prying out a chip. Most upgrades are very specific feature additions and not bug fixes in the core processing. So if it works, it's best to leave it alone.

If you're buying equipment in this kind of price bracket, you should be using a dedicated external headphone amplifier anyway....  :smoke:
