I own this CD but, to be honest, I haven’t listened to it recently...but I did drive to the nearby town of Geneva to see and hear these giants play.  Geneva was the hometown of Scott LaFaro and each April there is a memorial concert featuring a worthy bass player.  This year was truly special.

Since that night I have listened to the four Bill Evans Trio albums with Scott and Paul Motion and to this release  which includes an interview with Bill Evans

Great listening Tom. Hope a crowd turned out for the Geneva gig. How could it be anything but truly special?
We were planning to go but drove to check on M’s dad instead.

Love those Evans Trio recordings.

I’m still in Wardell Gray territory:

Nice one, AD. Great re-release, remaster 2cd set with some red hot playing by Barney Bigard. I’ve always enjoyed Duke in a small group setting where you can really hear him play. My “This One’s For Blanton” lp is about worn out.

Like Barney on this too:

Charlie Haden “Private Collection

The two-CD set The Private Collection consists of two rare, early concerts from Quartet West.

Hey Lester, agree re: the Duke and small group setting. Can't say I'm that familiar with Barney (that I'm aware of), but will check him out. And had totally forgotten about Don Cherry till a while ago when I heard him on Trilok Gurtu's Spellbound CD. Need to revisit his work.
