Bob Dylan "Desire" - NEVER MIND - PLEASE IGNORE
« on: 27 Apr 2023, 06:51 pm »
Ever heard the SACD Redbook layer (or regular Redbook) of this release from 2003? To me the audio quality sounds like crap. Reminds me of listening to music on my 1966 transistor radio. Or on my Echo Dot.
My experience has been most of his releases sound thin/shrill, and I seem to prefer only the ones put out by Mobile Fidelity. But still, this one seems extra shrilly.

What say you?

I have the original 1980's CD release of this, as well as the 2003 CD, which is just the Redbook layer of the SACD. The 2003 has a much fuller sound than the original CD. What you're describing is how I would describe the sound of the original CD, thin and shrill. That being said, these are the only versions I've heard. Maybe someone who's heard another CD version, or even the LP can chime in.

Thank you for your reply. Turns out, one of my cables was not fully seated, causing the poor audio.
Once corrected, the sound was much better and as you described. Sorry for the error on my part.
