      Hi Guys:
                 There is a very interesting article on kqed.org regarding eliminating 200 hundred or so employes because the bridge is losing money.
                  I suggest you read the article. In these hard times no job is safe.
                  BUT!!! Many years ago the Golden gate bridge was making a profit. It stopped making a profit when it got involed in public transportation.
                  Buss routes and ferry boats. Those things cost a lot of money to operate. I don't think there is a public transportation system in the
                  USA that makes a profit.
                  Hope the employees do not lose their jobs. It would be a disaster.

the degree of job loss, loss of economic opportunity in this country through the course of this year is devastating...  layoffs at the ggb is the evaporated mist on a drop in the bucket... but of course our politicians in washington have bigger fish to fry... like reducing health care and fighting abortions
