B100 Vs SP2 analog circuitry
« on: 16 Aug 2006, 02:27 am »
What is the difference between the B100 and SP2, strictly in terms of quality of DAC, clock and associated analog circuitry after the conversion? Is all the circuitry identical? And and is essentially the only difference between B100 and SP2 the number of channels?
In other words, is the quality of the analog signal the same, coming out of B100 and SP2?

James, your response will be greatly appreciated.

HI Kas,

Yes the analog gain stages are the same in the B100 and the SP2. (the same in all our preamps - they are custom Bryston Class A Discrete circuits (not IC's)

This gain stage is the reason that even in the digital modes the SP2 sounds as great as it does. Digital board ONLY does processing - all gain is through the discrete class A operational amplifiers.

The DAC in the B100 is the same DAC as the one in the SP2 but the Dac in the B100 and B60 and BP16 and BP26 'reclocks and resamples' the PCM digital bit stream at the input.

Thanks James, I thought that was the case!
