2" Owens Corning 703 for ceiling?
« on: 2 Feb 2008, 09:52 pm »
I know this is a basic question, but am needing something effective for side wall and ceiling 1st reflections. Can get six 2' x 4' x 2" sheets online for $120 shipped. Sound good? I will cover and hang them.
Have nice 5.5" cotton corner traps (thanks Bryan) and homemade polys and skylines diffusers. I think the ceiling esp. is main cause of some shrillness at loud levels, not a surprise in this room (11.5'w x 26.5' long, hard plaster walls/ceiling and carpeted floor. Apartment built in 50's).
Thanks, Don

These rockwool boards should work just as well and are considerably cheaper.

You can get the 703 considerably cheaper.  The mineral wool will certainly work fine acoustically.  For a DIY project, I personally don't like to work with it.  I much prefer the 703.  It cuts much easier and cleaner without any worries of crumbling.

Thanks everyone. Just ordered the 6 pack of 6lb Rockwool rajacat linked to. $93 with shipping, saved a couple pizzas over the 703.
