My apologize if this has been posted previously...but just came across this (2016/17?) very nice, informative, personal and honest interview with Chris Russell....and thought I'd share it for those who haven't seen it.

"CR: I love music from an early age. I love many different styles of music and even Broadway shows. My parents lived near New York and visited these shows regularly and as a child I listened to this music. Now, at a later age, we often visit live concerts ourselves. For example, we try to attend as many concerts as possible of the Toronto symphony orchestra. We then do our best to bring this live experience to the living room."

Great interview, thanks for reposting, Rob. Not a typical interview, but a really educational one with engineering design insights explained to laypersons (like moi).

Best quote from CR, about his home system:

CR: It goes without saying that everything is from Bryston. Why would we have something else?

Indeed.  :thumb:

I love the "bring the concert into the living room" quote from CR. HUGE difference between a live concert mix and a studio mix...HUGE.
To replicate what was born in a recording studio two channel is fine. For a live concert recording reproduction two speakers just ain't gonna get it done, sorry.
I have the same goal as CR, to replicate a concert. To implement his concept I needed:

1) A subscription to Qello concert app/channel and Broadway HD channel (I stream via a Sony UHPH1 BR player or a Firestick) or a LARGE collection of concert BRD.
2) A projector and a 120 inch screen.
3) A surround processor that does immersive audio (like the SP4).
4) 10 full range speakers in an Auro 3D layout and a subwoofer (or 2 if you have the space).
5) Lots of free time because once you turn it on you can't turn it off.  :thumb:

I have done tons of A/B testing with all of the immersive formats as well as 2 channel. I can listen to studio recordings in a 2 channel near field setup for hours but it ain't gonna replicate a concert or broadway show, no way no how.

rob80b,

Thanks for sharing... this has answered my greatest question about Bryston.... Why have we never seen a tube amplifier? This gives a detailed explanation...

WOW. Great interview. I like when he mentions making capacitors to last FIFTY years, so they can warranty for twenty! Very cool.
Then about our James.. trying out speakers... I did not know that. All I remembered before the Bryston speakers James had Magnepan 20.7s.
The talk about the transistors was also interesting.
And also the discussion of noise.. This past year, swapping out duplex for Furutech, and changing power cords, then adding PS Audio Noise Harvesters.. using a noise sniffer to find where to place them... All reduced the noise and it really mattered! One reason I like the BP-26 so much. the more you do For it, the better it gets!
