I'm happy to be a part of audiocircle and have the chance to communicate with customers and potential customers (or just exchange information and ideas). You can of course view the MAD products and even download manuals from http://hollowstate.netfirms.com or communicate with me directly if you prefer. I have increased the width of the oak side panels with tapered enges for 2003 so I will post some new photos when they are available. Also, the Ultra 4m and Line 2m preamps have an extra set of output jacks this year and can be ordered with Alps volume controls at a slight extra cost.

Dr. Lloyd,

I am enjoying the Line 2m you sent me and am intrigued by the options for dual outputs and maybe ALPS pots. Or maybe i'll get really ambitious and try to put some DACT stepped attenuators in the works. If I was to do this myself would you be willing to describe what things need to be done?

I am just learning up on electronics for fun of this hobby but have no particular background in electronics. I have a masters in applied math, so I understand the theory of E&M more than the application.

Josh, I would recommend an Alps Blue Velvet 100K volume control from Angela Instruments before I would go for a switched attenuator. I know that the Alps control will fit and it is wired exatly as the stock unit so is an easy DIY project. It will be a tighter fit in the Ultra 4m but it is possible. The plastic elements of this control will last a long time with no noise and should provide little coloration. Also, the two sections will track more closely than in the stock unit. Whether it is worth the extra cost is up to the individual--perhaps if you do the conversion you could let us know your findings.
