Help with damaged GK-1
« on: 31 May 2004, 02:57 am »
One of the tubes in my Hagerman Cornet phono preamp failed  disastrously (and spectacularly) today, taking the right channel of my GK-1 with it.  I'm not an expert with troubleshooting, but I wondered if someone (or Hugh, if not too busy) could help me?

I ran through the testing part of the instructions, and two anomalous voltages came up in the right channel: voltage offset is -14.46V and voltage across R4 came to be 3V.  All other voltages were within spec.  I'm assuming from this that one or both of T1 and T2 are fried.  Is there any way to confirm this?  If this is the case can I get replacements.  I guess they need to be matched.  Or am I way off and something else has failed (like C1???).

Any direction is much appreciated, folks!   :(

Hi Chris,

Ah, I'm sorry about this!

C1 will be fine.  Both T1/T2 will need to be replaced, along with T3.  Is the LED still lighting up?

Nothing else should be damaged.  The tube will be fine.......

I'll get 'em into an envelope for you, but just confirm the LED is fine before I send......

Cheers,

Hugh
