How much cable can I use between my TVC and my amplifier?

Hello!

I am the wrong guy to ask - I am a fan of short cables!  There is no firm answer without looking at the rest of your system. If your source has an output impedance of approx 300 or 400 ohms or less AND if you normally listen at levels at least a handful of steps from the top volume settings (or lower) then you'd be fine with longish cables - say up to 3 or 4 meters. If you are needing much more than that I'd say it is time to move some gear around! I have had calls from folks running 10M cables and I can't wrap my head around that...... If you are talking of using 1 or 2 meters it should be fine with any spec gear that would work in the system generally.

If you e-mail or post the exact specs or your sources (output impedance) and if you now have the TVC now let me know what a typical level setting is then I can confirm you'd be fine with your plans.

Thanks!

John

I plan on using 10’-15’ (feet) as I would lie to be able to have all the control in front of my listening seat.
The rest of the system is a pair of Classé Dr3 driving a pair of Acoustat 6+6.
I haven’t made my mind on source yet.

Hello!

If you choose a source with a decent level of output (2V or more) and if it has a lowish output impedance (300 ohms or less) it should work out fine. Higher voltage is even better but NOT if the output impedance goes up over 300 ohms or so.

Many Thansk!

The longest cable will be from the TAP and the amp!
Not the CD player and the TAP.
I still have to look for 300 Ohm or less?

Hello!

There is no one length or impedance that is o.k. or not o.k. - it's not a 'go / no go' kinda thing. Any impedance source will still play music, etc..... Most systems are just fine and I am sure yours will work out - but since your cables are longer than typical just look for a source with a lowish output impedance - use 300 ohms or less as a guide. If you like the source and it is 350 ohms then go for it, etc. I think you'll find most sources have an impedance of under 600 ohms or so - the majority being 300 ohms or less. Chances are that your chosen source will fit the system fine.

Thanks!
