Studio monitor build question
« on: 5 Apr 2020, 06:49 pm »
Instead of having a grill frame that's 3/4" thick, is there any reason why the sides and back can't be 3/8" taller resulting in a 3/8" thick grill frame? A 3/8" filler piece would have to be added to the front baffle above the tweeter, but that's not difficult.

I don't see a problem with that. Won't change the performance. You would just be moving the dividing line between the speaker and the grill up, the over all height will not change. Might be a cleaner look. I like it. I even thought of making the side panels the same height as the baffle and recessing the grill into the top. That could be an even cleaner design.

That was what I intended when we designed the baffle.  If we get some flat packs going,  they  will be done  like this

Jay,

How likely is that to happen?
