Is the mod only useable with the cable?  Can I use this with the integrated cable?  My car does allow for a audio cable out but I need to change songs and charge.

Welcome to AC and the RWA forum!

With the 5g/5.5gen iMod, you must use the iMod dock cable if your car has an AUX input jack (analog signal).

If it takes the USB signal (digital, from the dock port of the ipod) and does its own d/a conversion, then that is fine.
