Ericus Rex

Looking to get some.  I've only heard Uchida so far and I didn't like her heavy handedness.  Your recommendations?

Although he is better known for his Rachmaninoff, Richter was a great interpreter of Debussy.

Michel Beroff, specifically his Denon recordings, though his EMI recordings are excellent as well.  There is a new-ish, third release of the Preludes on Lyrinx from 2015, but I've not heard that yet.

Other notables are Michelangeli (DG or any of the multitude of live recordings), Jacques Rouvier, Jean-Rodolphe Kars, Walter Gieseking (his 1930s recordings, in particular), Ivan Moravec, and Daniel Ericourt (albeit in poor sound).

Among young pianists, Francesco Piemontesi's recent release of the Preludes is superb, and though she has not recorded any Debussy yet, I heard Lise de la Salle play six of the Preludes last fall, and she was up there with any name you care to mention.

I'd pick Walter Gieseking and Maria Joao Pires. Among young pianists, I like Fan Ya Lin (heard her live performance at RMAF and have her IsoMike CD).

+ 1 for Michelangeli his Bosendorfer was the perfect instrument for the Book I Preludes.  I have been listening to that for many, many years.  Paul Jacobs's recording is good too but it does not compete with ABM.

2nd the Paul Jacobs rec - a truly different take on the music and one that really clicked with me.
