Sony SS-G3 (or higher) upgrade
« on: 29 Sep 2021, 04:00 pm »
Hello all!

Since I am new here and I can not use search this circle option (before I open few topics) :D so please forgive me in case there is a similar topic already in existence here. : :green:

I have Sony SS-G3 speakers paired with my Sony STR-V5 receiver and I am planing to improve them with better parts upgrade. I was inspired by Danny and his work on GR Research channel. My question to you all is - are there any members who already did this? Or upgraded SS-G4 or SS-G5 or even G7? I am looking for advice and user experience what to avoid, what to do ect.

I found this link on the web which is inspiring: https://www.flickr.com/photos/leethal_lee/albums/72157710994461391/ but I have no idea about which parts are inside, and which ones should I get to replace them. I know that speakers on this link are G5, but I guess there is not that much difference in parts compared to G3.

Also I was wondering about which terminals to get. Regular speaker terminals that I can buy in my local store seems to be cheesy http://www.oktava.hr/index.php?route=product/product&path=105&product_id=549

I will upload images of my setup in my next post.

For speaker terminals, use these Electra Tube Connectors sold by GR Research.  Watch Danny's video on them.  They are supposed to make a nice difference in clarity.
