I have tried almost all windows software. I like very much foobar2000 like a tool and to listen ISO (with SACD plugin). And Mp3tag. Both are free soft.

Always FLAC 0 1024 kbits.

If someone else is encouraged to comment how he does it with other software …

Months ago ALL intermediate were at 95%. With the change of the cheap EPCOS 85º with the expensive and BIG Mundorf MLGO 47,000uF 125º capacitors in the DC blocker prototype I can heard the sound difference!

PD: my problem is that my cheap second system have now a very good sound. I get excited more easily and more often than before when listening to certain excellent recordings from analog master.

To have clean power is very important. Without that condition, which is necessary, it is illogical to spend a lot of money on hardware I think.

Dirty mains is a very BIG bottleneck.

I woulk like the same, EMOTION, with recording from digital masters but this is other story and this is not the proper thread.

From some weeks ago I make CD rips with foobar2000, FLAC 0 1024 kbits. Speed is slow, only 1/2 but the sound is better -without any doubt- than the same made years ago with EAC, FLAC 4 1024 kbits.

To listen to FLAC I like more JRMC 23 64 bits with my conf.

Just now I have made a new rip with foobar2000 (FLAC 0 1024kbps).

The old, many years ago, with EAC 0.99pb5 + FLAC 1.2.1b

Again, the new rip has better sound, more clean, detailed.

To me, the best Spanish tenor is Plácido Domingo. Second the master, Alfredo Kraus (perfect technique, maybe the best technically but cold, without emotion) and third Jaume Aragall.  And yes, I do not like Josep Carreras, very inferior.

Problem with Jaume Aragall: very few recordings!

The italians Mario del Monaco y Franco Corelli (technically the worst but the one that more emotion and credibility transmits) are very good too.

The new rip from the same CD off course, made with foobar2000, FLAC 0 and 1024 kbps. reference libFLAC 1.3.2 20170101

The old, August 2009, Exact Audio Copy V0.99 prebeta 5. FLAC 4 and 1024 kbps. reference libFLAC 1.2.1 20070917

After the rip, I played them with foobar2000 and the sound pffff. Now, with JRMC 64 bits (Kernel Streaming too) the sound is much better, much better!

The new rip sounds different. Less bass but more clear. It is as if the old rip were congested at low frequencies.

And yes, I am a fan of Total Commander from the times of Win 3.0 or 3.1

Not trying to start that old Windows v Linux debate but give Daphile a try.  IMHO it's better that the foobar/Windows solution.  It has way less processing overhead and all the technical control you can ask for over your ripping and playback.  They also include AccurateRip  http://www.accuraterip.com/  and more.  However it's headless so you loose some functionality like a web browser to download files but I have another PC for those duties.

I do everything using WAV and dbpoweramp. That decision is based on the face storage devices are cheap. Why do you use FLAC?

I have not gotten in Linux Mint (I am of the very first users), Manjaro and any of the audiophile Linux the same quality of my Win 10 Pro 1709 64 bits. My incompetence? bothers me a lot and ties me to Windows.

Like a FLAC player, foobar2000 => TRASH.

But with the SACD plugin, the sound of the ISO (SACD) are much better than JRMC 64 bits.

Note: I worked with UNIX before Linus Torvald appeared in the scene. An old machine, PDP-11, where I learned to program in PASCAL, like my others companions. I remember that I detected an error in the compiler.

Lost my large comment!

In short, less compression better sound. Why? the processors generate less noise and jitter.

WAV is too space. The alternative is FLAC 0.

And a lot of time to create / update the backup to an external disk. I have tons of very good music recordings.
