Title: Hockey Season
Post by: stlrman on 28 Apr 2017, 01:04 am
Seasons Greetings!! :thumb:
So , is your team still skating ?  I am watching the greatest player on the planet  who scored two really fast goals to start the 2nd period , to stun the Capitals fans. The Pens dismantled the Blue Jackets in 5. This  series is always very competitive, and many commentators
Think the winner of this series will take the Cup.  Fluery has been playing very well for the injured Murray , who got hurt before the first round.
Ahhhh , spring, flowers , warm weather, and the chase for the cup!!!

Habs fan first, then Toronto, then any Canadian team.

If all the Canuck teams get bounced, I look to support the Penns if they are still in it.

Alexander the Great rules!

Hope this is the year for the Caps.  Now when Hawks are out of playoffs (what a shameful series!), I am enjoying the East cost battle.

+1

I used to live in Edmonton, but I much prefer where I am now in BC. Still can't help cheering for the Oilers and Eskimos though.

was at Rogers Place to watch the Oiler.. the early goal by Anaheim was a bummer.. silenced the fans right away. they battled back but Ducks got a go ahead goal right after the game was tied.

oh well, nobody expected the Oilers to sweep the series, I hope they bounce back like the way they did after losing by 7 goals to the Sharks

Nashville looks super !! St. Louis is in trouble !!
Washington has dug a deep whole for themselves. Washington is out shooting Pittsburgh and playing well, but needs better goaltending . Fluery has been standing on his head!! :thumb:
Pittsburgh needs to spend more time in offense, forechecking.  Being out shot by 20 shots each night is not good. But Kessel playing great , Sid doing everything!!
What a pretty goal by McDavid!
Devastating loss for the Rangers!! 6-5 in double OT. Two 2 goal leads for NY and could not put them away !! Lundqvist not playing well . Now down 0-2 going back to NY.

So , a cheap , disgusting , viscous hit to the head changes the trajectory of this series.
Here is the hit :
https://www.google.com/amp/amp.timeinc.net/si/nhl/2017/05/01/penguins-sidney-crosby-injury-matt-niskanen-hit-video%3Fsource%3Ddam
What say you ?
Notice Ovey's slash and trip that set this in motion.
Penguins score twice in the last minute or so with their goalie pulled . Wow!!
It's a rough and tough game , but I hate to see this shit !!!
I think niskenim knew exactly what he was doing ! He was clever looking away at the play while rattling the brain of the greatest player on the planet.

Oilers....Las Vegas Fav to win....heard it on the x so it must be true.

I lived in Vancouver for 12 yrs, never could cheer for Canucks.

Go Oil!!.....I worked on the new Ice district in Edmonton.....its something to see all that construction all at once.

Heres a pic from a 30 story building I took of the new arena....Rogers Place...just about a year ago.
You can see the ground work of the new 53 and 70 story towers starting beside it.

That seems so incredible given where it's located... it wasn't that long ago when 737's took off and landed a short distance from there. Do you have a more recent picture of the building?

Great victory for the Rangers, in a must win game.
Pens eek out a victory. Fluerry is still playing at super high  level. Now the Caps in a 3-1 hole.
The Edmonton series looks to be awesome from the highlights I'm catching.

taugh loss for the Oilers in the last game.. as an Oilers fan, very frustrated by the officiating. The two goals by the Ducks should have been disallowed. One was clearly goalie interferance and the other was an off side

oh well.. lick the wounds and move on

Next game is in Anahein, the road game watching party in Edmonton sold out (19,000 tickets) in 25 minutes, way before the ticket in Anaheim where the actual game is sold out..

Oilers looked great !! Could the Ducks lose 4 straight game sevens on home ice? I'd say they are the underdogs after that loss.
I am a bit nervous about the Pens game tonight . Capitols goalie was looking really strong in the 3rd period .

Super tight game. Pens dominating most of the play but Anderson is standing super tall , he is 6 foot 4 !!, frustrating all attempts!! Crazy hitting going on . Pens lost Schultz and Rust in the first period to some brutal clean checks.
Ottawa plays very stingy defense.
Note to Pens , don't go into OT with them !!  6 of 9 OT wins this playoff! Great game though!!! :thumb:

I caught only the 3rd period.  It was tight and in the end the Pens deserved this one.

I'm trying to think if there's a Sports Team in Pittsburgh that I don't even dislike !!!

Let's see we have the team with "Ben the Mollestor" & the team that has "The Next One" (that the NHL decided to "Crown" before he took his first puck drop; Seriously... they decided to put him at "Gretsky level"?????). Why do the major Sports Leagues do this nonsense ? What's that song title "We don't need another Hero". Creating Sports "Heroes" before they've had a few years of playing their sport doesn't work for people who followed sports year after year . You can't tell me that when a league promotes new "Stars" the players aren't getting preferential treatment from the Officials "from the start of their careers"

Yeah , I know that it's a matter of 'Sour Grapes' on my part, & Sid is very talented, but how much has the league help him out from the start ? Why bother watching the games if there's a 'Star' or 'Sports Hero' on the other team ? (& the Sports Commentator's at every opportunity tell the spectators how great certain players are ?)

I may be done with "Spectator Sports" for a while ! (Well at least until Football Season starts: so I can get aggravated all over again. Can we just release all the Officials or rotate them to different Sports every year. They can't do any worse then they already do every year I suppose)

Really, hating on Sid Crosby?  So squeaky clean that his biggest scandal is cutting in line at the DMV?  Dozens of awards including back to back Conn Smythe awards and Stanley Cups with him as captain?  Sure it's too soon to talk Gretsky greatness, especially with the head injury history, but he's so obviously the best player in hockey today that some speculation on what he might achieve is not unwarranted.  I get that you're frustrated with pro sports and the demigod status of many stars, might I politely suggest that a different star player in a current playoff sport might be a better target for your ire?  Regardless, all the best and here's hoping football season brings you some measure of comfort.

Hard for Predators fans this AM after the quick whistle on their goal.  Then salt in the wound as a former teammate scores the game winner in a garbage goal.

Good for the Pens for persevering and winning another.

Pred's fans can believe that their team is right there now, and could be 1 trade away from a return visit to the Cup.

Nah !!!!  All "Star" players in just about every major sport somewhat "water down" some of the respect many very talented players in those sports deserve.

Anyone who follows sports will defintely see how certain players stand out from the others, but you plainly see sometimes that "featured
stars" think they deserve additional officiating consideration at times. I'm just suggesting that "Star Player" status is more of something "Newbies" seem to to thrive on. & "Star Status" becomes a vicious cycle where all the other players seem to hold back playing certain players as aggressively as they could for fear of being penalized .

Sports are not "American Idol"...... He,he,he, yeah, I don't see much hope for myself staying a Sports Fan much longer ! My "Angst level" ends up over riding my enjoyment of the competition. (Which is something I just fail to get about Piano Competitions..... We really have more extremely talented Musicians than we need ????????)

As much as I dislike Cindy, he is currently the best hockey player in the NHL in my opinion. I don't think it is too early to compare him to the greats of the sport and I do believe he will match up favorably. However, I do think he has been handed the silver spoon. Not his fault. It's the parents (Bettman).

Sydney had a fantastic year!! Overcame two concussions, leading goal scorer, racked up 27points in the playoffs.
I'm sure Connor McDavid could give two shits about his league MVP's and would trade 2 cups and 2 Con Smythe awards any day !!!!!
Estimated 650,000 adoring fans came to this:

Sid is such a class act!!! Soooo talented and humble!!!
I simply can't fathom how one can watch him play the game, and not be amazed by his talent, his effort and tenacity, his vision, his will to win, making others around him soar to greatness.
Jake Guentzel was the leading goal scorer in the playoffs!! 21 year old! His line mate? Of course.

It's sad that millions of "hockey fans" boo greatness because he is not on their team.
He is a player for the ages, and will go down as one of the all time greats!!

Title: Blues win Stanley Cup
Post by: AmpDesigner333 on 17 Jun 2019, 05:32 pm
Didn’t find a better thread to add this....

————————

Congratulations to the St. Louis Blues, winners of the Stanley Cup 2019 !!  Some of the most entertaining hockey I’ve ever seen on tv.

They were in last place (January) when we saw them beat the Flyers live in what was a very disappointing game for us.  That was the day the Blues goalie started his NHL career as well.

In the meantime, Tampa Bay was swept in the first round of the playoffs after the highest regular season point total in NHL history.

What a season (!), and the playoffs broke tv viewing records:

It was VERY cool  :banana piano:
We've been waiting 50+ years for the cup to come to town. The buzz is still going on. The latest estimate of the victory parade was 390,000 people  :o   The night of game 7 which was played in Boston, 20,000 fans packed into Busch Stadium (where the Baseball Cardinals play) and also took to capacity (18,000) the Area, just to watch the game with other fans on the big monitors in those venues. The streets were were like a ghost town during game 7.

Yep, this town went a little nuts  :thumb:   ....and still is

Nice to see them take their first cup !!!
