Title: AS2.100 specs
Post by: JohnR on 23 Apr 2014, 11:19 am
Would anyone here perchance be able to help me with the specifics of the Hypex AS2.100 plate amp output power specs? The shop page says:

"Output power LS1: 100W @ 4Ohms
Output power LS2: 100W @ 4Ohms"

But the user manual includes the note "* 100Watts is the maximum of the total unit." So... the output power is limited by the power supply, to 100W total on both channels?

From the designer:

Both amps are equal and 100W capable but the supply is only rated at 100W. If you use it for a 2-way speaker this is not a problem since the average power on the tweeter is quite negligible. This was its primary target application, hence the choice to rate the supply only for one full power channel. So when you use it to amplify a stereo pair, consider it a 2x50W amp.
