David Bowie Blackstar

Yes, yes, more of a jazz recordng than anything else, and certainly more outre than most anything else out there and because it's Bowie, it's of a unique and singular stripe as we knew it would be. He raised the bar very high indeed, yet once again. Genius.

Read this today and thought of him:
"A prudent man... must behave like those archers who, if they are skillful, when the target seems too distant, know the capabilities of their bow and aim a good deal higher than their objective, not in order to shoot so high but so that by aiming high they can reach the target."

Now that looks tasty CB. Don't think I ever noticed that hook up, and am a big fan of Towner. Have been aware of Gomez for a while now, just not as familiar, and what's not to like about Bruford. Thanks for the tip.  :thumb:

:thumb: I was in the same camp for a long time AC. Until a few months ago all I had of his was Monk's Blues on vinyl.    Then a friend shared this one, and I thought 'maybe I should revisit my thinking'. Picked up the Real Gone Jazz 6 album CD remaster, and have been pleasantly surprised. I think like many we heard mostly his late '60s & '70s work and felt he was too free form. His '50s & early '60s work was more 'classic' jazz based, and quite accessible. I see there are a couple of other remaster sets available now by Enlightenment, 54-57 & 57-61 (5 discs for ~ $15 @ azon), that I'll probably check out. The RGJ sets are well done, but seems like there is a tad more bang for the buck with the Enlightenment sets, and they are (to my ears) well remastered. I have a dozen of the RGJ sets, only 1 of the E-ment at the moment, Bill Evans. Makes for an inexpensive way to check various artists out without breaking the bank.  8)
AD,
I found a copy of Straight, No Chaser and am liking it a lot.  Still looking for Monk's Blues.

Samples: Patricia Barber - The Cole Porter Mix

Ah, my favorite Barber with a stunning performance of "I wait for the late afternoon and you'.
Check out this video on YouTube:

But tonight it's this, equally as good, almost.
