Frans purchased a pair of SoundScape 12's on the used market. The previous owner had only had them a few months when his wife found out what they cost. She said either she or the speakers would stay, but not both. He decided to keep peace in the home and Frans purchased them.
Now it was time for a SoundScape C center and M7's for surround duty. Of course, they had to match the SS12's.
Here are the M7's...

Frans, have a great cinematic experience...

Love the look of those! Killer set.
Also really like the new photo method, much sharper and clearer. :)
-
Looking awsome, congratlation Frans.
-
agreed^^^ speakers are beautiful and photo's look great Jim!
-
Fran - FANTASTIC looking speakers... Just WOW !!
I tell ya - I never tire of the look of that finish...
Just downright sexy.... I know you'll love the M7's...
Nuance was just over to hear them again briefly... No complaints as usual...
-
It's always so darned hard to keep my mouth shut when I see speakers in process before the owner gets to see them. We are very jealous of this system you have now!!
-
You are a lucky guy.Have fun with the new toys.
-
The wait is nearly over! Thank you Jim - I'm sure these will rock my world!
I had to keep the silver gray tiger maple theme going. These will be with me for a long, long time!
-
Wow, Frans - just amazing. Please post pictures of the entire setup when it is in place. As Warpdrv mentioned, I was at his place today listening to his own pair of M7's and they just sounding phenomenal. Congrats to you, sir!
-
Hi,
Okay I know where the original owner went wrong? He didn't get Jim to 'doctor' the receipt and take a few thousand off them. I do this all the time and its worked really well so far :)
They are a beautiful looking speaker and I hope the owner enjoys them.
Regards
Rod

Really looking forward to the complete set. Should arrive on Friday, yay!
My next move will have to be figuring out how to acoustically treat my room, I'm still trying to figure out where to start!

Congratulations Frans, you're finish inspired me. I've ordered SS8s in a bird's eye curly maple with silver gray finish!
As far as room treatment, I just submitted floor plan and photos to Auralex. They have a free evaluation/recommendation service (for their products obviously). Submitted Sunday - haven't heard anything yet though.

The M7 & C will need to live up to these masterpieces!:

And they are masterpieces! The 10/12s remind me of locomotive engines! From the photos of your new speakers, the finish does live up to them. What are you powering them with?

There's a lot to like about this amp, gobs of power and it's silent like a tomb (both the device and the speakers when nothing's happening). The price/wattage is pretty hard to beat and build quality is great. Granted, I don't have any other amps to hook up, so I cannot tell how this would sound against, say, an Anthem P5 or Bryston 9B SST2. The other day I popped in the eponymous Dire Straits debut (definitely a reference SACD) and the plentiful power on tap just riveted me to my seat... Yeah, that's what it's all about! I have an audiophile friend (ok, my only audiophile friend) who has Von Schweikert VR-4 SR MKII speakers running off dual mono tube amps and speaks highly of them, so I am expecting an awesome experience when/if I get to hear them. It will help me determine a better frame of reference.

Hook them all up and play "Transformers", then a whole bunch of music, then after you repair all the cracks in your plaster and the house resettles you'll have a good baseline to start from! LOL!!!! Thats my favorite veneer so far whats the technical name of it for ordering purposes someday??? These get 5 dancing sunglass guys

Yeah, after Transformers - sound treatment will be the least of my worries!
The "technical" name for this treatment is: Silver Gray Tiger Maple (with full veneer front baffle).

Those M7 monitors are gorgeous!

To properly listen to the M7s and C, the first order of business is to play the 5.1 Blu-Ray Grace for Drowning (http://www.buy.com/pr/product.aspx?sku=223716378&sellerid=27185655) by Steven Wilson as it's the best sounding audio I have. It uses all the speakers to reproduce an immersive experience (I was going to say "sound scape" :duh:). I might even make them the fronts for a while and listen like that! The mind boggles! 8)

Hey Frans, did we tell you that we secretly hate you! :icon_lol: I mean, a full tilt SS surround package!? Are you kidding me? When is your gtg? :eyebrows:
-
Hey Fran's, did you find some stands for those M7's yet there partner?
-
I have these Wood Technology (http://www.wood-tech.com/content/wc-175) stands as a temporary measure.
Want to see how they work before committing to the Paradigm stands. Taking arrival tomorrow, so I'll know very soon!!!

Heh, I'm not sure what to make if this when it's coming from a guy who has an actual bat cave decicated listening room with blue speakers, amps, and a matching chair...
I'm sure someone's done the full tilt SS system before, or am I just that special? :cyclops: Either way, if you are in the Seattle area, please do swing by and that gtg can be arranged!
-
Frans
i recall when those speakers were being listed
Great score
Do you have the ss12s hooked up yet?
How large is your room?
-
14'W x 23'L x 7'H
Have had them hooked up since January.

I am now firing on all SS cylinders!
Currently listening to the DVD-A of Rumors by Fleetwood Mac. Gotta say that the M7 speakers really just knocked it way out of the park on the delicate acoustic interplay on "Never Going Back Again." Before that I was playing Porcupine Tree DVD-A "Lightbulb Sun" and "Russia on Ice" never sounded so utterly majestic! I am actually working my way up to Steven Wilson's "Grace for Drowning" because it's not the magic evening hour when everything sounds best (that might be the wine though).

Love it! Haha, I have the SS10's and I know what you mean about the Fleetwood Mac track. I love listening to music in my office and then bringing the tunes into my main listening room to hear the SoundScapes do their thing. Magic happens everytime, never gets old. :D
-
No kidding. I am writing this as "You Make Loving Fun" is sounding so awesome coming at me from all directions - my eyes are misting over. That's MAGIC!
-
Congrats on the wonderful system! One of the few pre-made speakers I would consider if I wasn't such a DIYer.
Good call on the Porcupine Tree and Steve Wilson multichannel stuff. He is an excellent musician AND engineer. You might try to find the DVD-A of Toy Matinee. A little bright sounding(not bad with the Raal), but really excellent music and surround mixing.
Also, Roxy Music Avalon is an excellent multichannel mix. Very open and clean sounding.
Enjoy.

Very nice when a plan comes together my Brotha....
Congrats...
-
Regarding center channel setup, what else can you do with a TV like that? Room treatment is a logical next step. Congrats on your SS SSS setup.
-
Yeah, The TV is next to be upgraded so the center can be placed much lower between the SS12s. Work in progress...

The Mitsubishi 65813 Diamond is the king of all "dinosaur" HD Rear Projector TVs regardless of brand and its picture (delivered by 9" guns) is still incredible. This has made it so hard to justify a suitable replacement (plus it just won't die!).
However, there are a few new contenders that have piqued my interest, so we shall see!
-
Frans, A question for you about the finish on your SSs. I've seen a few photos of the various speakers in your system and the photos vary in what they convey. Can you say something about what color tone they really have? Would you say they look dark brown as in that last photo, or more like grey/black with warmth showing through as in the first photo in your thread?
Thanks........Peter

They are all 100% silver-grey black (zero hint of brown). I think the dark brown in Jim's photos are due to the flash used for the photography. Flash appears to bring out a "hidden" undercolor that is not visible in person.
In the picture I took, the wood from the oak floors is reflected in the finish of the SS12s. The finish on these beasties is unbelievably beautiful and reflective.

It looks like you could easily cut a hole and place the CC there!

yup, those are/were great rear projectors....
Nothing else but a 1080p plasma will touch it for PQ... Panasonic is still the king in this dept....
LCD/LED still have motion blur amongst other issues... Good luck with the hunt :)
