Test with 48, 96 and 192 kHz and not with 44 kHz. 16/44 was a bad choice but understandable at the time, not today.

If we made a difthering from 24 to 16 bits usually we can hear difference depending on the algorithm used. Therefore, in vinyl rips, usually WAV / AIFF 24/192 or 24-32/384, it is better to keep 24-bits. FLAC 0 to 192 kHz and / or 96 kHz depending on the recording quality is a good idea.

Symphonic music peak: 120 - 137dB

Human ear, outside an anechoic chamber, begins to perceive sound about 19 - 21 dB (a very important fact when choosing a really silent fan).

At least we need about 100 dB -> at least 18-bits -> 24-bits.
