Title: buzz/hum
Post by: parr3n1 on 6 Jan 2011, 06:05 am
I have a buzz/humm in the right channel. When I disconnect the phono cable the buzz/humm disappears. I have a Grace 940 tonearm with Cardas Golden Ref. cable. The cartridge is a mm  type. Any suggestions please??? Thanks

1. See if any of the leads attached to your cartridge have come loose.

2. Check shield of offending channel, to make sure it is making contact.

3. You never said that while you had hum, you also had music? Or not?

Yes I do have the hum with the music playing and without the headshell installed on the arm. The cable is brand new from Cardas. How do I check the shielding? Nothing looks amiss on the outer covering. I have another cable set that I will try to install tomorrow. Thanks

Is your ground wire attached (sorry for stupid question)? Take a volt/ohm meter and do a continuity test on the center pin and shield of the offending channel. The pin will go to one of the contacts on the other end as well as the shield.
