I'll be there Saturday and Sunday. Looking forward to hearing the new Raven Audio speakers.

I'm working on getting some NX-Treme models ready for the show.
That would be a pair of these: https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=152137.msg1633892#msg1633892
We also have one of the larger exhibit rooms on the first floor. :thumb:

Danny will need a fork-lift to haul those in. I will bet GR gets the best of show like the year I went. Any other bettors here? :D

They are a lot lighter than other speakers that I have taken to shows in the past.

With just a few weeks to go until Lone Star Audio Fest 2019 as a preview of coming attractions I will be posting some details on what fellow exhibitors tell me they are bringing to Dallas.
Let’s start with Joshua Miles’s JWM Acoustics. When we spoke Joshua was very excited to debut his latest revisions to the ALYSON AML which I believe will be designated SE. The changes are internal so the stunning look of the AML is unchanged.
Electronics and sources in the JWM Acoustics demo system take a turn to the exotic with the inclusion of Absolare Passion Integrated Amplifier, Echoles cable, Allnic phono stage receiving signals from , but of course, a JWM Acoustic Karen turntable.

Joshua has posted a short video clip of the ALYSON AML SE and Passion Integrated Amplifier based system.

Wayne Parham chief honcho of π Speakers and founder to LSAF is bringing their four π mains with flanking subs to LSAF 2019. Wayne and his lovely wife Kelly run one of the most friendly and chill rooms at any given LSAF. Great place to hangout and enjoy good tunes and good company. If you are more in the mood to get technical Wayne is one of North America’s leading experts on horn loudspeaker design and like many others at LSAF freely shares his knowledge.

^ Excited about this... both attempts to get into his room didn't work out for me last year. Friday it was locked down and Saturday it was full.
However, I did get into Josh's room and loved what I was hearing from his AML's (and Karen TT). Also got a big approval from my wife and bought the review models.

Is this show worth attending? Take into account flying, car etc. I always plan $1k before buying anything.

Of course it's worth it because I'll be there...lol
Since you moved away from us in NC you need to come to TX for your audio fix!

The year I went, no. But the show keeps growing, so I am not sure about today.

if you want to be herded in and out of a room and maybe get 5 min. to listen to someone else's music then go to the big shows. if you want to visit a room at your own leisure and sit down and listen to your music and discuss audio and get into the designing of the product and meet and make new friends then come to the lone star audio fest.
do you think an individual would bring his personal system to a show just to have a good time if they had to pay $5000+ ? you get this at lone star.

I fly in for the weekend, too, and it's about $1k by the time you pay for all the little and big things. It's worth it to me as there aren't many audio retailers around my area anymore and those that are left seem to cater to very, very rich people. The Texas show has pricey gear but there are always a few rooms that have affordable good stuff, too.
The other thing about the show is the number of rooms with very small companies. These folks don't go to the big shows as they really can't afford dropping $5k or $7k on a weekend. So the show gets a lot of small audio companies and generally the person manning the room is the owner of the company and the designer of the gear. They are generally very forthcoming with their experience and will share good information. They aren't sales drones.
It's a great weekend. Very laid back atmosphere and a lot of good will. You'll hear a lot of great music.

I have set myself quite the stretch goal for Audio Crafters Guild LSAF 2019 demo system. New speakers and electronics with work proceeding at a manic pace to transfer the vision from my head and CAD into the real space.

Great news, last week Rick Craig of Selah Audio confirms he will feature two speakers at LSAF 2019, the Omaggio and Ritorno. The Omaggio is a line array and the name means "homage" or tribute" in honor of D.B. Keele and his work. The Ritorno is a 2-way monitor that's a "return" or "throwback" design with a forward-looking bent of technology. On the Selah Audio AC circle Rick has posted the following photos of the Omaggio.

So happy I didn't go to Axpona
-
My plane back to Dallas was scheduled to leave at 6:55 pm, but left at 8:30 i thought they were going to cancel.
My question in don't they deal with snow all the time?
It's not like it was freezing rain and ice.
-
I drove into blowing snow heading south from Axpona last year. The wind blew so hard that it triggered a traction warning from my vehicle even though the road was not wet! Darn this climate change.

You lucked out Marvin. Sunday morning we sat on the runway after engine de-icing for 2 hours, then 1 hour for wing de-icing. Eventually we went back to the terminal to find out an hour later our flight was cancelled. We were rebooked for Tuesday morning

Last weekend before LSAF 2019 and the new gear being introduced is coming together. Yes it’s a manic thrash but my work style funnels the creativity into design decisions when deadlines loom. On the electronics side a new version of the NT-JFET pre-amp incorporates the last two years of development work. The Korg NuTube + JFETs architecture remains with the 100kHz low noise regulators moved onboard and more powerful output stage. One part I am really pleased with is the revision B version of the mount for the NuTube 6P1 dual triode, first assembly shown below.

what day is everyone checking in? i'll be there thursday afternoon and check in for fri and sat.

Hi Marvin,
If things go according to plan I'll be there around dinner time on Thursday and stick around until Monday morning. Sunday is always a bit low key but it gives me a chance to decompress from Saturday before having to spend a day traveling home.
Looking forward it.
Barry

I'll get there Saturday morning and stay until Sunday afternoon.

After finally sorting out the logistics of this weekend, I can say I will be there and have a handful of rooms again. I will not be going as large as I did last year but expect to get better results this time around.
My first room will host the brand new Usher SD-500 monitor. At just under $2,000, this is a speaker that could grab the market. Utilizing the famous Usher Diamond tweeters along with a new 5" woofer, the sound is articulate and quick. The rest of the electronics of this system has not been determined yet, but will likely utilize the Norma HS-IPA1 half sized integrated ($3,000 base, +$750 with DAC).
(https://scontent-dfw5-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/59079226_2375534982679239_5230029406310760448_o.jpg?_nc_cat=101&_nc_ht=scontent-dfw5-2.xx&oh=1a61e28e56a554f8428d30dc1f4ca95f&oe=5D2D9F79)
The second room will host Gunny from Sonner Audio as he showcases the Allegro Unum ($10,000) monitors. The Norma IPA-140B ($7,000) will power them.
The third room will be the same system brought to AXPONA. The newly redesigned Rosso Fiorentino Fiesole monitor ($7,500) will be powered by the Norma SC-2B preamplifier, 8.7MR monoblocks, and the DS-1 CD Player/DAC ($5,250). Cables will be Wireworld Platinum throughout and the room will feature the Star Sound Technologies Sistrum Rhythm platforms.

Looking forward to hearing your rooms, Skip. You always have great sounding rooms.
The rest of the show looks good, too. Danny and Craig's arrays look interesting and they both do very fine work.
Wayne will be there with his 4 Pi's and John Busch is bringing the current version of his Widowmakers. It's going to be a very interesting weekend.
Love it.

any photo updates and info would be wonderful for those of us not around... hint hint..

Here are a few pics I snapped. Thanks to all the exhibitors for the time and effort they expended to pull off their demonstrations for a free admission show!
The GR-Research room downstairs sounded incredible. Great soundstage depth, and lateral imaging. You could hear right where all the vocalists were standing! Note the batteries powering the main speakers.

I went with a friend and we both felt Danny's room was the best there. The bass was wonderful - impactful as all heck and yet clear and unbloated. I have a pair of Danny's dual 12" servo subs and I get nothing like that - guess I need to actually use some of those knobs on the sub amps. Our only negative thought is that you need a big room for those speakers. I felt they sounded as good or better than any of the 6 figure speakers I have heard at RMAF.
-
My friend and I both also agreed that the best sounding smaller speaker was from Sonner. I know nada about this company, but the soundstage and clarity were excellent. Listening to them was just a pleasure - hard to describe, but you immediately know that these are the real deal.
-
I just returned home from Dallas and want to thank everyone for making the show a success. It was great to see some familiar faces and meet new people as well. Kudos to Steve, Wayne, and everyone else who helped put together the LSAF!
-
I went with a friend on Friday. It was a good day for listening because it was not very crowded. Met some friendly folks and heard a lot of great sound systems. I have to agree with the previous poster regarding the Sonner monitors. Spectacular! Two of my favorite rooms was Sonner and Volti. These two speakers systems couldn't be more different in design and size but both were absolutely captivating. My other favorite was the GR Research system; yet again a completely different topology but a very special sound.
-
This was my first year attending, and I was only able to make it out on Saturday. So glad I went though, and I will make a stronger effort to go from multiple days next year. I had a ton of fun, met some great people, and heard some amazing systems. If only it was possible to do this all the time!
