Sunfire TGA 5200........
« on: 23 Nov 2009, 06:33 pm »
Is anyone familiar with this amp? I have an opportunity to pick one up pretty cheap. And any idea if it would be a good match for a pair of Martin Logan Clarity's? {which i got even cheaper}

Thank you

It's a 5 channel amp (200 X 5)

Yes I looked it up and even downloaded and printed the manual. Just wondering if anyone has heard it and has an opinion on its sound.

I'm sorry. I assumed you were looking for a 2 channel amp, as you only mentioned the MLs.

While I don't have the TGA 5200, I do have a Sunfire Cinema Grand II (225 x 5) amp and a Sunfire Theater Grand II preamp.  I've had them going on 10yrs.

Both Sunfire pieces of gear are fantastic.  The Sunfire amp has never had an issue, runs cool, and has plenty of rock solid power.

I'm sure that while not the exact identical model Sunfire amp, there's not much difference.

No apologies needed. I was working when I first posted and didn't have time to give many details. Normally I would look for a 2 ch. amp for the ML's, but I have a chance to buy the amp for 550. New retail was 2800. As for the other 3 channels, I might eventually get a ht receiver and use the pre outs into the Sunfire.

Thanks for your info on the amp. Good sound, lots of power and reliability sounds like a winner!

Thanks guys!

For HT maybe, but as a 2 channel amp it is a little less than ideal.  It had decent bass if I remember and extended very high but had no real character or warmth.  So as an amplifier, it amplified.  As a musical instrument, not so much in my experience.

For that price, it's a no brainer.  That's a killer price for an outstanding amp.
