Blown Fuse in my Transporter
« on: 12 Feb 2010, 09:30 pm »
Unfortunately, my EML rectifier tube died yesterday and took out the fuse on the tube board with it.

After a quick call to Dan (great customer service as always - thank you), I got things back up and running (using my trusty NOS BEL rectifier), but it got me thinking about the fuse I am now using.  It is a cheap Radio Shack glass fuse (4 for $2.79) and while it is doing the job, I started to wonder if anybody is using an upgraded fuse?  If so, what are you using and what improvement did it provide?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I honestly have no idea...

It has been my main rectifier for the past 6-8 months.

George:

I converted to HiFi Tuning fuses last year and blew the same one that just went out on you.  Phil recommended these:  http://www.cryo-parts.com/fuses.html   I don't think there is any substantial difference between them and the HiFi Tuning fuses except for the price!

I don't think an audiophile fuse will reduce fuse blow out when your rectufier blows.  I blew out my EML rectifier and it took the fuse with it.  I decided to stick with NOS tubes rather than continue with EML.  YMMV.

How does this cryo-parts fuse sound?

Anyone has tried other fuses and has good results? Please share.

Thanks in advance.
