Title: what's inside your de capo i?
Post by: mauro on 9 Jul 2008, 03:15 pm
Hi everybody,
I own it's few days a couple of mm de capo i. Since I bought them used, I want to be shure that the prevoius owner has not done any mod. I've opened my spekaers and found: 1 big paper oil capacitor + 2 very little (ceramic?) I think they are resistors; cables are vdh SCS for the woofer and vdh the skyline for the tweeter; the reflex port is just a really short curve and the damping internal material is something like raw cotton and it stand only in the 4 sides of the speaker.
Is everything OK?

Thanks in andvance to anyone will answer me

Might want to send the manufacturer an email; don't know how many people will be willing to crack open their speakers just to answer your question.  No offense but I sure as hell wouldn't trust myself with removing screws from any speaker I bought.

I've been inside de capo's before but I don't recall seeing any resistors.   The wire has always been VDH with Reference 3A products.  There is minimal damping material - I do believe it is recycled cotton like you see.  It sounds like the only questionable items are the resistors.  I'd email Reference3A just to ask - Tash is a great guy and his wife (I think Dianne is her name) is really helpful as well.

thanks a lot for your answers

IronLion: my question was for those who had already opened, for any reasons, their speakers, i never tought that soembody could have opened its own just to help me

Red Dragon: thanks for your suggestion, I've already written an e-mail to ref3a, attaching some photos and a as precise as possible description, but their reply has been too much generic, something like: your speakers are what should be....given your photos
Tha's why I've asked in this forum. My bigger doubts are on the wire uused for the tw (I thought it was vdh scs as for the woofer, while in fact it's vdh the skyline) and on those 2 very very little resistors, or inductance, or I don't know what elese they could be, but Tash at ref3a did not made me aware of any quetion about them
Thans again
