I've read on this forum a fair amount of concern about BCD-1 drives failing and having to find replacement drives.
If you have actually replaced your BCD-1 drive (Phillips) please chime in here, and also indicate how many years your original drive lasted, before you had to replace it.

My BCD-1 has been in for service at least 4 times (5?), one time was for the display but the other times were constant errors, the last drive was just replaced outside warranty two years ago (?) but I'm now experiencing "error" again and it will not eject the disc, any disc.....sorry I may be a Bryston stalwart but my poor BCD-1 (love the sound though) has been a real PITA from the get go. Unfortunately, besides my Rega turntable the BCD-1 is my main source for music playback so I'm not looking forward to sending it in again. :(

I'm not a Bryston customer. That said, this sort of opinion polling won't accomplish anything except providing someone with imaginary data points that will "confirm" bias. Anyone with a product complaint is vastly more likely to voice a negative opinion in public that those with a positive opinions.
I'll bet that every single manufacturer of digital equipment using optical drives experiences difficulties with their drives. A little digging in forums shows these sort of issues with about every brand of disc spinner, Bryston isn't unique.

Even with all the problems (see list) with my BCD-1 since purchasing new in 2008 I do not believe it's a common problem otherwise we would see way more reports..believe my little guy just may have been born with the rare "gremlin affliction"...happens to the best of us. :oops:

Last reported problem Feb 2015, repaired out of warranty by Bryston.

Exactly....but for those that do it's a pita for both consumer and manufacturer.
Thing to remember though and the most important is that the customer is not left hanging...Bryston and James are normally right on top of any problem that may arise and have bent over backwards to appease their customers.

So true.
