BTW, every artist mentioned in this thread is available to stream via Qobuz in full resolution and sometimes even in hirez.

You certainly can't argue with Moravec OR Arrau.
But... no appreciation for Rubinstein?

So true, James.  Not only is Rubinstein’s playing masterful, but with the 24/96 Qobuz stream, the all too elusive goal of making the piano sound like a piano is realized.

Great thread.  I’ll be checking out all of the recommendations.

Yes, FullRangeMan! Pires’ performance is probably my favorite- very thoughtful (as is most of her playing) and expressive, but not excessively romantic. But I also really like the Moravec and Rubenstein recordings.

Rubenstein. I know you ask for CD, but... if you have a mono cartridge get the 1958  RCA LM-2176.  It's a beautiful recording.
