Kinda hard to find, but this CD is so good it will scare you. Recorded in 2-track digital and the dynamics will blow you away.

Hello,

Thanks for the recommendation!

Actually way back in this thread this was mentioned, but its good to bring it up again.
I grew up with these early DDD CD's and Jim Salk has some neat history here that he share earlier about FLIM and company.

The dynamic range is fully explored here, so be careful with your volume on this one, listen at first at a moderate level before you start cranking it up!!! Yahoo!!

It can be found on the A:

All the best

Happy belated New Years to all. If you enjoy some early 60's, soulful blues, check out Stormy Monday from Lou Rawls. Great vocals from a 21 year old Rawls backed by the tight Les McCann Trio. With all of the later commercial glitz, people sometimes forget what a great voice this dude had. He shows off the goods on this recording. This is him at his best... in my humble opinion.

Good to hear Alex... 8)

How about something a bit different...
I was going through some ECM recordings that I own...almost all their recordings are very well done.

This is from 1976...and it has been reissued...a sort of East meets West Jazz.

Collin Walcott.... with John Abercrombie, Dave Holland, and Jack DeJohnette.

Collin Walcott defined a corner of improvisation all his own with his unique approach to the sitar and tabla. When the newly-formed Gateway trio of John Abercrombie, Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette joined him for “Cloud Dance” the results were magical.

The album.... "Cloud Dance" .....Samples...

Track two...."Prancing"....a nice duo of bass guitar and tabla....good for checking out you woofers....but the whole album is well done....and a very good late night listen. :thumb:

Been listening to Gillian Welch Time (The Revelator) this morning, very good recording, and a very sweet voice.

I think the new Decemberists Album works great to test speakers.  It's a bit folk country, but Gillian Weclh sings on it.

I hadn't seen this mentioned here, but I recently received "2L The Nordic Sound" (it's a sampler of 2L's catalog).  The music is great and the sound quality is up there with the best I've heard.  This "set" includes a music BD and a hybrid SACD.

Highly recommended!

I thought this looked familiar, so I searched my collection and found that I have FLIM & the BB's "TriCycle" CD on the DMP label.

http://www.amazon.com/Tricycle-Flim-Bbs/dp/B000003DCJ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1299122285&sr=1-1

I bought this many, many years ago and had forgotten about it.  I'll have to give it a listen on my new Salks and see what I think.

Saturn94 the cd has wide dynamics....that is very low hardly audible notes then quickly to the other extreme!! Be careful if you crank up the soft passages watch out the drum whacks will surprise you and maybe a speaker pop!! LOL.

Seriously listen to it at a low to moderate volume to learn where the dynamic transistions are....

Its a really good disc to show off dynamic range for sure.

TriCycle sounded great.  And you're right, it's quite dynamic.  It can startle you if you're not careful with the volume control. :o

I do remember Tricycle.  It was in my initial collection, but I no longer have it.  We were burglarized back in 1984 when I had first started my collection, and they made off with almost 400 CDs.  Some of them I was never able to replace at the time.  I'll have a look for this one.

Just recently found out about this great CD.
The sound quality is impeccable imho, recorded live to 2-track analog. Some bluegrass, but mostly acoustic jazz/blues with tango and waltz cuts. Got a used copy under $5.  :thumb:
