Title: Torus RM16 for 4bsst2 + BP26
Post by: Gibalok on 9 Feb 2016, 02:56 pm
Hello Gents
I have spent a lot time studying topics on Torus products, its benefits and practical usage here on forum. Also i got through James' explanations about current draws, claculations.. etc.

But to be sure:
1) 4bsst2 doesnt have torus trans inside, so using torus will benefit 4bsst2 not only with protection and noise filtering but supplying peak amps?
2) is RM 16 CE is enough for 4bsst2 and potentially for 2x7b if i decide to upgrade. Can you please justify with figures. Only what i found on RM 16 CE is 16 amperes and 3800 VA.
3) is it ok to put there other stuff like BP26 and a DAC?
4) is 2$k fair price for 2 years RM16 ex demo? Are there any risks of of damage/flaws?

Thank you

I have the Torus unit as well and love it but worried if it would be enough down the road with a pair of 7's.  I have been using it with a pair of 3B2s and 9B2 with no problems.  If you look at the dynamic power requirements associated with music/movies, you wouldn't simply take the maximum current requirements for the components and add them up to arrive at the proper power conditioner model.

I originally bought the Torus because of the very dirty power in our old neighborhood as well as several lighting strikes that knocked out components over the years.  We have since moved and the electrical is much better, and all underground in our new community, lessening the risk of lighting.  With the announcement of the cubed series and the description associated with the design parameters to reject noise/hash, perhaps I won't plug them in to anything but the wall.

Well, thanks for you partcipation.

I will stay with 4bsst2 for 5-10 years unless winning a fortune. Given the design of 4bsst2 ( no filtering and no protection) i would use it through torus.

Did i understand you correct that in a real life I will not come to situation when my RM16 is not able to feed properly 4bsst2?

I can't see anything wrong where that  Torus running the 4 or with some components also.
I run a RM 20a(240v) for 2X7B-SSt2+rs-600 projector and Oppo player and a Arcam AV-8 processor and on top
a Vac sig tube preamp...no problems whatsoever.
Have  two Torus(s) in my system for yrs and they aren't going anywhere, the other is a 60a Torus for my fronts :thumb:.
Semms my pict cut off the RM-20,its on the bottom.

back to figures, 2x300watts (8 ohms) + 100% as AB class for heating and dissipating  = 1200watts. whereas RM 16 has 3800VA transformer and given the low output impedance (0,1ohms) = seems to be enough with a huge (3-4 times) budget.
